Wilders On Trial the Entire Month of October
GATES OF VIENNA: The PVV leader Geert Wilders was formally notified on Thursday that the criminal case against him will continue next month. The Amsterdam court continues the process starting on October 4. The verdict is due on November 2.

Wilders must be in court on October 4, 6, 8, 12, 15 and 19. Two weeks later the verdict is planned.

“It’s terrible that I have be in court trial the entire month of October,” Wilders said Thursday after he had received the summoning. “I will stand trial one whole month for freedom of speech.”

The Death of Free Speech in the Netherlands
GATES OF VIENNA: I posted H. Numan’s translation and commentary last night about the webmaster in the Netherlands who was convicted of a criminal offense for “racist” writings posted not by himself, but by a visitor to his site.

The first notice he received that he was criminally liable for the material posted was when the police came to arrest him — there was no prior request to remove the insulting writings.

To add to the injustice, far more offensive and provocative material is routinely posted on Islamist forums and is never subjected to any punishment.

H. Numan pointed out that by attacking a small, little-known website, the Dutch government has managed to set a precedent for the suppression of free speech on the internet. We should expect them to employ this precedent to go after larger and more well-known sites like Gregorius Nekschot and GeenStijl. Muzzled (Again) in Finland
GATES OF VIENNA: Tomashot is a Finnish blogger who has just been convicted of “incitement against a national group” (in Sweden it would be hets mot folkgrupp). I can’t link to his blog, since he was required as a part of his sentence to take it down.

The case seems to resemble that mounted against Mikko Ellilä last year, only in Tomashot’s case the government pushed it all the way through a trial.

Our Finnish correspondent Sludge reported the verdict in our comments this morning. I managed to find an online report in Finnish, and KGS of Tundra Tabloids translated it.

Tomashot is quoted by Turkkilaista Tuumintaa as saying:

Tuusula circuit court found me guilty today of incitement against a national group. My sentence was a fine of €850 and all of my web pages were ordered to be closed down. Even though I insisted that my pages which were part of the factually based “News From Finland”, which publishes news concerning the crimes committed by immigrants and should be spared, they were also ordered to be closed down as well.

After its shameful treatment of Ayaan Hirsi Ali whom it has thrown to the jihadi wolves, the Dutch have further run up the white flag for their culture by allowing the jihadis to take over the Dutch TV Muslim broadcaster, as this story reports:

Until recently, the Netherlands had two Islamic public broadcasters: the moderate NMO and the orthodox Dutch Islamic Broadcasting Organisation (NIO). Media watchdog Commissariaat voor de Media demanded that the two would merge so that the Islamic faith would have a single representative body in the public system. But according to Nova, this resulted in NIO staging a coup of NMO…

One of the members of the new board of directors is Yahia Bouyafa, who ‘is believed to have close ties to the Muslim Brotherhood,’ as Nova reported. Another is Abdelmajid Kayroun, chairman of the Al Farouq mosque in Utrecht ‘whose imam was deported from the Netherlands in 2001 for espionage for the Libyan secret service’. Also among the eight directors is Mohammed Nanhekhan, a member of the ‘radical movement World Islamic Mission’.

The Commissionership for the Media says it has ‘no indications’ that anything is wrong. It will only instigate an inquiry if the Justice Ministry or the secret service AIVD requests it, as a spokesperson stated.
