'Mohammed Raghead' – The Name the FBI Were Giving to Muslim-American 'Joe Bloggs'
THE INDEPENDENT: Newly-published documents leaked by Edward Snowden provide the first proof of individual citizens being monitored by US spy agency
The US government spied on thousands of law-abiding Muslim-Americans including top US lawyers and academics according to newly-published documents provided by NSA whistle-blower Edward Snowden.
The monitoring was authorized under the Foreign Intelligence Surveillance Act (FISA), a law intended to target individuals involved in international terrorism, espionage or sabotage.
The leaked documents published by The Intercept include a list of 7,485 email addresses monitored between 2002 and 2008. Five of the emails identified by journalists have been described as leading “highly public, outwardly exemplary lives”.
A document dating from 2006 from the same cache of files instructed intelligence agency staff how to properly record the identity of those under surveillance and used the fake name of “Mohammed Raghead” as an example. » | James Vincent | Wednesday, July 09, 2014

Snowden's Father Says FBI Asked Him to Visit His Son
BBC: The father of US fugitive Edward Snowden has said the FBI asked him to travel to Moscow and see his son, but adds that he wants more details.
Lonnie Snowden said he had been asked several weeks ago about Edward, who is sought by the US for leaking details of electronic surveillance programmes.
However, he wants to know the FBI's intentions, he told Russian state TV.
He said his son would not get a fair trial in America and, if he were in his son's place, he would stay in Russia.
He described his son as a "true patriot" who had "made America a more democratic country" by revealing secret details of the US National Security Agency's surveillance programmes.
The interview was broadcast live, early in the morning, on the Russia 24 news channel. Mr Snowden spoke English, with a Russian translation.
Mr Snowden has been stuck in transit at a Moscow airport for more than a month as he has no valid travel documents. » | Wednesday, July 31, 2013

AL ARABIYA: The FBI has charged two men in Albany, New York with making an X-ray weapon that they intended to use to sicken opponents of Israel, “specifically Muslims,” reported The Guardian on Thursday.
An indictment charges Glendon Scott Crawford, 49, and Eric J. Feight, 54, with conspiracy to provide support to “terrorists” with the weapon.
The men appeared in federal court separately on Wednesday and were ordered detained until hearings on Thursday. They could face up to 15 years jail time.
Investigators have revealed that Crawford approached Jewish organizations in 2012, looking for funding and technical guidance to build a weapon that could secretly deliver damaging doses of radiation against those considered to be enemies of Israel.
“Crawford has specifically identified Muslims and several other individuals/groups as targets,” investigator Geoffrey Kent stated in a court affidavit. » | Al Arabiya | Thursday, June 20, 2013

THINK PROGRESS: Rep. Louie Gohmert (R-TX) suggested on Friday that the FBI was unable to ask deceased Boston marathon bombing suspect Tamerlan Tsarnaev about Islam during its 2011 interview with him due to President Obama’s “political correctness,” thus allowing the bombing to take place.
Gohmert said on the House floor that the Obama administration has prevented intelligence officials from discussing Islam. “It was in that 9/11 commission report, before this administration took over and implemented political correctness,” he said, arguing the FBI’s training manuals were “systematically purged” in 2011 to conform to Obama’s worldview.
Obama’s whitewashing of Islam, Gohmert hinted, allowed the Tsarnaev brothers to slip through the fingers of the FBI and set off bombs in Boston: » | Hayes Brown | Friday, April 26, 2013
