More proof that Turkey doesn't belong in the EU
In June 2006, the Turkish media reported on two recent surveys, by Pew and by Princeton Survey Research Associates. The Pew study, which was conducted in 15 countries between March 31 and May 14, 2006, found significant erosion of positive feelings towards the U.S. among the Turkish people. The Princeton study showed that most Turks have negative feelings towards Jews and Christians - more than in other Muslim countries and Arab countries - and that most do not believe in democracy, despite the common belief that Turkey is the most democratic country in the Muslim world. Even considering letting Turkey in the EU is cultural suicide on steroids. Totally insane, and yet there are many of the bureaucratic elite who want this. I wonder why?

Speaking of bureaucratic elites, what happened to Villapain? See Sarkozy doing the circuit for his run for President? And what will be Chirac's legacy - Paris burning? Yey, the years ahead are going to be miserable with terror consuming more and more of our resources. But we must let them in. We must. It is better to die than to deny based on a person's ideology. We are all equal.

Why the élites should want Turkey in the EU, even when it flies in the face of common sense, is a puzzle to any good-thinking, rational person. In fact, it beggars belief.

Villepin, as far as I know, is in a spot of trouble there in France, at least in part due to internal power struggles, as far as I recall. You're right: We've heard little about him in recent weeks. One could almost imagine that he's been forgotten about.
