Former Iraqi President Saddam Hussein is to be charged with genocide over a 1980s campaign against the Kurds, an Iraqi tribunal has announced.Mark Alexander
Saddam Hussein and six others face new charges over a campaign of killings, arrests, deportation and property destruction known as the Anfal.
Human rights groups say 180,000 civilians died in the campaign.
Saddam Hussein and seven others are already on trial for the deaths of 148 people in the town of Dujail.
The killings followed an attempt to assassinate the former Iraq leader.
Mahmoud Othman - an independent Kurdish member of the national parliament and former member of the Iraqi governing council - welcomed the announcement. Read it all here: Saddam to face genocide charges"

They should have already hanged him and ended this three-ring Circus.
Heard the silliest thing this afternoon on the radio. The talk show host is worried that frying Moussaoui and Saddam will turn them into icons for the Islamorabble. This same host prides himself on his (self-anointed) erudition, but he speaks as though he has read NOTHING about the real nature of Islam and its True Believers.
If not Moussaoui and if not Saddam, then they will find something else or someone else to rally around. They are like very angry, overly electrically charged clouds looking for a lightening rod. Any rod will do.
I'd say send him a copy of your book, Mark, but he knows everything already and would just trash it. That would be a waste!
George Mason, you talking about Michael Medved? That surprised me too.
We have to do what is right. It is not right to keep the mass-murderers of innocent people alive. It is an insult to the victims and their families.
I've been hearing the same silly things to which George Mason refers.
Make Moussaoui and Saddam martyrs. Get them off the planet so as to honor the memory of those these psychos have slain. Besides, there is no other cure for them.
Pastorius and AOW: Right ON! It was Michael Medved. Sometimes he makes abundant sense. Other times, he makes little to no sense. I can never predict. One of his problems, as I see it, is his over-concern about what others think (e.g., about America, etc.). I say, let's get on with doing what is right and let opinions fall where they may. What did we hear way-back-when? Sticks and stones...
"Moose,"
Thumbs up on your comment. With these Islamorabble, it's always a situation of "heads, we win; tails, you lose." What does anyone do with those who won't play by the tenets of reason? Don't play with them, and keep them out of your playground.
To all:
Please forgive me for the silence. I have been engaged with a member of the family who has been hospitalized. I shall be back posting as soon as possible.
Re: frying Moussaoui and Saddam will turn them into icons for the Islamorabble.
Muslims in general are very picky when it comes to martyrs.
Killed in battle yes (suicide bombing = battle), execution doesn't qualify for martyrdome.
Weaklings are executed.
One of the reasons Muhammad couldn't agree to crucify Jesus (as one of Allah's prophets) in his Qura'n.
I'd say: let him fry in peace.
We will fry them the Islamobabble will whine and carry on how ever it does and no one will listen to them.
Missinglink,
yeh that's true, shameful. all the more reason for us to make a point of loud yet gracious releif and satisfaction at justice well served. Not many of us are propably into the death pentaly, but here, the whole of Modern Civilaation will naturally be at peace with the deaths of these monsters.
Anyone got a copy of the pic of saddam down the hole :)
Mark,
Hope your family member gets well soon mate.
Mark,
Family first. We understand.
Mark,
Your presence is missed--but please don't worry about us.
Your family your most important concern at this time. Please let us know how things are going.
I have thoroughly enjoyed reading the posts of your erudite readers--and have learned a lot--thanks to everyone who has posted.
In the eyes of the Islamic world, we in the West continue to "show weak..." Only one who is both ignorant and naive would think that this will win us any friends or stop the wanton, pathological violence against the West. We have to "show strong" and that means exacting appropriate punishment on Moussaoui and Saddam and all of the others engaged in jihad against the civilized world. NO ONE would ever accuse any of these wretches of being civilized, rather they are savages, using Islam to justify their murderous rampages. The time has come to do whatever we need to do to stop this barbarism by stopping them.
here is a lesson for the west in how to deal with Islam

Mark,
Just to say it "out loud," so to speak. From way across America, in rural flyover country, to you and yours, our strongest positive thoughts for your family member and you who are so instrumental in the care for that person.
Very concerned,
Slightly off-topic, but here's a good site to learn how to do hyperlinks:
Getting started with HTML
Heather,
About that HTML page...I've been looking for such information. Thanks for posting that link!
God forbid that these oppressors should buy up blog-hosting sites!
Concerned,
I got that notice from Jihad Watch. I just paid my damn tax-ransom and can't afford to donate right now. But I WILL.
Read this. Excerpt:
On Monday, Russia's Novaya Gazeta newspaper reported that part of Ukraine's Soviet-era nuclear arsenal may well have found its way to Iran. With the breakup of the Soviet Union, the Ukrainians agreed to transfer the Soviet nuclear arsenal that remained in Ukraine after its independence to Russia. According to Novaya Gazeta, some 250 nuclear warheads never made it to Russia and are thought to have been sent to Iran instead. The report further noted that the warheads will remain operational until 2010.
I've heard it said that the "propaganda war" will be won or lost on the Internet.
Everyone here knows that PhotoBucket removed some images from this site, right? Go through the list of archived articles and look for "censorship." If you can't find the article. let me know--here or via email.

Sorry this is OT, but here's an interesting tidbit from our other choice for President from an article in today's NYTimes:
A Roman Catholic who has struggled at times to talk about his own faith, Mr. Kerry also told the group that he believed "deeply in my faith" and that the Koran, the Torah, the Gospels and the Acts of the Apostles had influenced a social conscience that he exercised in politics.
This pandering political opportunist never shuts up does he?
I saw this on Dr. Sanity's blog--she's got a funny post about Kerry.
Heather,
Kerry wanted to sit down and talk with OBL to find out what he wants. That idea is pure idiocy!
I wonder where Kerry's wife stands with regard to Islam? If I recall correctly, she has some kind of money tie to Arab dinars.
NOTICE
(posted with Mark's permission)
Mark is having a difficult time right now as he tends to family illness (See Mark's earlier comment in this thread). He'll be back when he can.
Mark,
All best wishes from me. Life can be so hard sometimes.
