Is talk of limited nuclear strikes on Iran "nuts"?

Image hosting by Photobucket
JACK STRAW sought yesterday to silence renewed sabre-rattling from hardliners within the US Administration who are pressing for military action — even the use of tactical nuclear weapons — against Iran.

The Foreign Secretary described the idea that the White House wanted a nuclear strike as “completely nuts”. He insisted that Britain would not support pre-emptive military action, adding: “I’m as certain as I can be sitting here that neither would the United States.”

Many analysts in the West suspect that Tehran is attempting to build its own nuclear weapons. Over the weekend Iran allowed UN inspectors to examine some of the atomic plants which, its Government maintains, are designed solely for production of electricity.

Speaking to the BBC, Mr Straw said: “There is no smoking gun, there is no casus belli. We can’t be certain about Iran’s intentions and that is, therefore, not a basis on which anybody would gain authority to go for military action.” Read it all here: The idea of US nuclear attack on Iran is just nuts, says Straw Mark Alexander
Please accept my sincere apologies for my absence in recent days. There has been illness (with hospitalization) in the family, so I have been otherwise engaged. I am posting this today, but, unfortunately, I shall not be able to answer all the comments as I usually do. Please bear with me as things will hopefully return to normal again soon.

Mark,
It's good to hear from you. Please don't worry about not posting. We all understand the need to be with your family at this time.

“President Bush says (military action) is not on the agenda, but they don’t rule out any option in theory. I believe it is not on the agenda and they are very committed indeed to resolving this issue by negotiation.”

Yeah, negoitiate with the nutcase that is hell bent on hastening the return of the 12th imam (Mahdi), good luck with that.

I consider myself an optimist, but this situation is so very depressing, and I don't see a solution.

I wonder if Chuck Colson was on to something when he posted this:

A New Year's dream: nightmare or prophecy?

Pardon me, but Jack Straw is an idiot. If he sees a mushroom cloud over Israel, what inane thing will he say then?

I happened to hear GWB speak on television this morning when he was addressing students at Johns Hopkins. He made it very clear that Iran must not be allowed to have nukes. Now, I'm not a diehard Bush fan these days, but he had that steely look in his eyes. I think he means what he says. I hope so.

As Heather has pointed out, there is no negotiating with a nutjob like Ahmadinejad, who has his eyes on the mahdi prize.

OT here, and I don't think Mark will mind as he's occupied with family illness....

Tomorrow is supposedly the birthdate of MTP. I feel another "perverse" posting coming on. Very out-of-character for me, but I just have to take this opportunity.

Hey there heather,
just want to thank you for posting that Chuck Cholsen link there. scared the hell out of me but I also recognize that its a very likely scenario. Yeah and neither do I see a solution either. Unless God intervenes.

Indeed, there are "nuts" about, namely Ahmadinejad and Jack Straw. Since when is is normal for the leader of a country to openly advocate ethnic cleansing and propagate hatred? I thought Tony Blair's government was against religious hatred, so why is this OK with Jack?

Mark,

Welcome back. Obviously these are tough times, but you have so much support, as you can read.

He is so well named, this Jack Straw. Every time I see something he has uttered and then think of his name, I think of that expression "straw man." It refers to creating a phony something and attacking that phony something as though it was the real thing. He is sort of a substitute scarecrow, a place-holder waiting for that competent someone to arrive.

Jack Straw also reminds me of the sound track to a post-WWII Italian film. The music bore no relation to the story; it just chugged along as though it and not the film was the only thing there. Jack talks out-of-synch on good days and divorced from the drama he is supposed to be managing on all the rest of the days.

I swear, I think your politicos and ours exchange places with each other, as actors with fancy makeup and good voice and accent control.

Speaking of Brits, do you suppose Jack Straw ever heard of Neville Chamberlain?

To Anum: Are you trying to emulate Jack Straw?

Very well stated Mussolini.

Anum.

When I first read your post I thought you had to be kidding.

What in the world makes you think that Americans are afraid of Islam? We hold the utmost contempt for it based on what it has done to the world. It is nothing more than a cult of hatred.

Your statement about the desire of most Muslims to "live peacefully" was really hilarious. And the statement about constantly being attacked was priceless.

Where were you on 9/11? Practicing your religion of peace by jumping up and down celebrating the slaughter of thousands of innocent people?

BTW-I noticed one of your listed interests was submission. Click on the link to see what type of people have similar interests.

Anum,

This is what Islam
does.

Remember Beslan? What kind of religion does that?

George Mason makes the point I always think of when I hear the name "Jack Straw": straw man.

I also think of the scarecrow in The Wizard of Oz: "If I only had a brain."

I see that Anum has trolled over here as well. Yesterday, it was American Crusader and IBA. The day before, it was Warren.

And last week, my site, where I was declared a blasphemer. I wear the label proudly. After all, Anum declared that Jesus and his disciples reverted to Islam. So, I spoke my faith.

I won't bother linking to the specific articles; one can spot that Pakistani flag as avatar--not terribly original, I must say.

Anum appears to be blogging from a U.S. government computer--or so I've heard. Also, Anum seems to be hitting various sites which I frequent. It's gonna backfire, though. Hehehe.

Mussolini,
Bravo!

Anum allowed herself/himself/itself/themselves to be interviewed by a Jew here.

Beak is a good friend of mine, and his site is safe.

Have a read--interview Q&A and comments. Avenging Apostate also stopped by in the comments section.

You should show her/him/it this article:

The Muslims are the Ones Who Failed to Present a Positive Image of Islam

xinyi,

You're so welcome. You know, I read a more alarming article by him a few months ago, but I can't find it.

Chuck Colson isn't given to making wild predictions. He's a Christian and runs a prison ministry. (I think he became a Christian while in prison for
his involvement in the Watergate scandal.)

I believe the Bible shows that God does intervene--it's only a matter of time.

bld,
I thought it was mind-boggling too--if I find the other article I will post a link.

Heather,
That's a great link! Thank you.

I don't see Muslims doing much of the necessary separating, however.
