The long, long, long, long, long, long war!

Image hosting by Photobucket
It sounds eerily like the Cold War - and that is no mistake.

The "Long War" is the name Washington is using to rebrand the new world conflict, this time against terrorism.

Now the US military is revealing details of how it is planning to fight this very different type of war.

It is also preparing the public for a global conflict which it believes will dominate the next 20 years.

The nerve centre of this war against terror is the huge MacDill airbase in Tampa, Florida.

Surrounded by white sand beaches, palm trees and two golf courses it looks more like a holiday camp than a military camp.

But inside US Central Command (Centcom) generals are planning what they call "fourth-generational warfare".

Centcom is already responsible for operations in the Middle East, South Asia and Africa - as well as the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan - and now it is planning a campaign that will eventually span the globe. Read it all here: Planning the US 'Long War' on terror

I've heard "long war" quite frequently of late. Rumsfeld also drummed on this refrain last week when he was interviewed on Hannity.

Well, once I got the straight of things, I realized that we are indeed engaged in a long war--if we don't get taken down from within, that is.

I think this is just prudent planning on the part of Centcom. I personally would like to see them put Rumsfeld out to pasture ASAP.

There is an interesting article about what they are doing in the Gambia:
Gambia: American Military Partnership Makes Big Hit in the Gambia

My only concern is that they don't give the money and technology to Muslim countries who will turn around and use it against us.

it will be a fitting judgement in my opinion, that the 'good moslem' friends of the usa reciprocate the friendship by nuking it to oblivion!

Whoa dude! What religion do you practice--the ROP?

BTW-I think your wrong in the American president as the antichrist theory. I always have read this person will come from the Middle East.

Regardless, you don't seem too fond of the US/Americans. Why such hostility?

Hm....how on earth do our dear leaders plan to fight the long, long war without a clear vision who the enemy is?

Terrorism, my a..e.
If they are planning to fight the symptoms the war is going to be very, very, very long indeed.

I don't doubt the book of Revelation, but it is open to many different interpretations. Over my 50+ years, I've heard many of those interpretations.

Of course, one day the interpretation will be correct. But I don't think that all about the latter days is for us to know.

Forrest Shalom,
That verse from Genesis is not open to different interpretations.

Nevertheless, the United States is one of Israel's few allies these days. Of course, pc is what prevents the West from condemning Islam.

ForrestShalom,

There are many countries that are openly hostile to Israel-- the US is not one of them--so why the hostility toward the US?

I think most Americans thought Bush was a donkey's behind for pushing the "roadmap to peace"--I know it made me very angry.

I read that many (Christian)organizations had petitions sent to Bush and quoted the Genesis 12.3 scripture.

If you follow the US media you many have heard of Pat Robertson, a Christian evangelist/mogul who went so far as to say Sharon's illness was a direct punishment from God for participating in the roadmap. I think that is an extreme viewpoint.

In any event, I think your hostility against the US is misplaced. As AOW pointed out, the US has been a staunch supporter of Israel--despite GW's very misguided "friendship" with the Saudis. I call it the Karen Hughes influence.

The "long war" seems to be BeltwaySpeak used to justify half-assing this war. Since Truman, we have not waged a war to win, and Grenada hardly counts. Had we laid waste Iraq, and had we inflicted terrible things on Iran and Syria, and any other pipsqueak who sent in mercenaries, we would have been won decisively a good while back and left with valuable bases in Iraq from which to kick Islamic butt. We would have played our strong suit to peoples who respect nothing more than physical force and who would have been DEFEATED. We fought a war cosmetically, looking to look like we were there to win. From the jaws of victory, we snatched "Compassionate Conservatism."

FS,
Well if that is your viewpoint, we should have saved ourselves the time and trouble.

If you can't see how much easier it would have been for the US not to have been Israel's friend over the years, you are blind indeed.

I just saw this on the Stop the ACLU web site, via the Jihad Watch:
Iran’s Ahmadinejad: West will burn in nations’ fury

Someone from inside Iran needs to get rid of this nutcase, once and for all.

I agree with george mason (pbuh) in his assessment of what should have happened.

A fourth retired general has called for Rumsfeld to step down. I have been saying this for years. I am so angry at Bush for keeping this incompetent idiot in charge of our defense. What the generals have to say about the man is true.

Heather,
Earlier tonight in my surfing of the blogosphere, I saw that same article to which you linked in your comment just before this one.

Have you seen ...Nuke Plants in a Quake Zone?

AOW,

I did--I think it was at the Gates of Vienna. I've been at my computer a lot this week so I've been reading tons of blogs. Very interesting stuff.
