Roman Catholic Bishop Convicted of Child Pornography Stripped of Clerical Duties

THE GLOBE AND MAIL: A Roman Catholic bishop who was convicted of importing child pornography into Canada has been stripped of his clerical duties.

The Holy See in Rome has dismissed Raymond Lahey from the clerical state in what is one of the most serious penalties that the Roman Catholic Church can impose, the Diocese of Antigonish, N.S., said Wednesday.

The decision means Mr. Lahey, a former bishop of Antigonish, can no longer work as a cleric nor preside at any religious services or sacraments. » | ANTIGONISH, N.S.— The Canadian Press | Wednesday, May 16, 2012

Sharia Man In Court for Mardi Gras TNT Threat

THE AUSTRALIAN: IBRAHIM Siddiq-Conlon, a Muslim convert who has argued for the imposition of sharia law in Australia, has been charged with making a hoax terrorist threat after he allegedly threatened to "wear some TNT" to Sydney's Gay and Lesbian Mardi Gras.

Mr Siddiq-Conlon, who is behind the controversial organisation Sharia4Australia, has also been charged with child pornography offences after police allegedly found a number of illegal images on his home computer.

The western Sydney man yesterday declined to say if he was guilty of the pornography charges, which he admitted would attract "some minor punishment" under sharia law if he were found guilty.
"It might be a lashing, it might be jail, it might be a fine," Mr Siddiq-Conlon said.

Salim Farrar, an expert in sharia law at Sydney University, said pornography was forbidden under Islamic law, although most jurisdictions made no distinction between adult and child material. » | Paul Maley and Natasha Robinson | The Australian | Thursday, March 15, 2012

Iran Confirms Death Sentence for 'Porn Site' Web Programmer

THE GUARDIAN: Saeed Malekpour faces imminent execution on basis of confessions he retracted in letter, saying they had been beaten out of him

Iran's supreme court has upheld the death sentence for a web programmer who faces imminent execution after being found guilty of developing and promoting porn websites.

Saeed Malekpour was picked up by plainclothes officers in October 2008 and taken to Evin prison in Tehran, where he spent a year in solitary confinement without access to lawyers and without charge.

A year after his arrest, the 35-year-old appeared in a state television programme confessing to a series of crimes in connection with a porn website. On the basis of his TV confessions, he was convicted of designing and moderating adult materials online by a court in Tehran, which handed down [the] death penalty.

Malekpour later retracted his confessions in a letter sent from prison, in which he said they had been made under duress.

According to Malekpour's family, he is a permanent resident of Canada and is a programmer who wrote photo-uploading software that was used by a porn website without his knowledge.

His sister, Maryam Malekpour, said the supreme court had confirmed the death sentence despite many discrepancies in the case. "Saeed's lawyers were told that his death sentence will be issued this week," she said in an interview with the Iranian website Roozonline.

After an international campaign and new expert evidence, the supreme court suspended Malekpour's death sentence in June 2011 and ordered a judicial review.

Speaking to the Guardian, Maryam Nayeb Yazdi, a human rights activist based in Toronto who has followed Malekpour's case closely, said: "Saeed is in imminent danger of execution. He has never been provided with a fair trial at any point during this horrific and twisted ordeal. » | Saeed Kamali Dehghan | Wednesday, January 18, 2012

» | AFP | Mercredi 04 Mai 2011

Labiaplasty Surgery Increase Blamed on Pornography

THE OBSERVER: Doctors blame internet porn boom as more women seek 'designer vaginas' through genital surgery

Medical experts have sounded the alarm over soaring rates of labiaplasty, as the preliminary findings of a study show women are increasingly turning to private providers to pursue "designer vaginas".

NHS and private sector professionals have warned that some young women approaching cosmetic surgery companies are depressed or on medication, and are being sold operations without preliminary access to alternative psychological therapies.

Experts carrying out the research at King's College London also suggest that the so-called "pornification" of modern culture may be driving up surgery rates to unprecedented levels as both men and women have increased exposure to pornographic imagery via the internet. Recent studies have shown sharp rises in the numbers of young people accessing porn. >>> Rowenna Davis | Sunday, February 27, 2011

Iranian Web Programmer Faces Execution on Porn Charges

THE GUARDIAN: Saeed Malekpour sentenced to death after allegedly confessing under torture

A 35-year-old Iranian web programmer is facing imminent execution in connection with developing and promoting porn websites, charges that his family insist are trumped up.

Saeed Malekpour, a permanent resident of Canada who was arrested in October 2008 after his arrival in Tehran, is convicted of designing and moderating adult content websites, acting against the national security, insulting and desecrating the principles of Islam, and agitating the public mind.

Speaking from Toronto, Malekpour's wife, Fatemeh Eftekhari, said her husband has been informed of the verdict and has been transferred to solitary confinement for the sentence to be administered if the supreme court sanctions it. She says her husband was a web programmer who had written photo uploading software that was used in a porn website without his knowledge. >>> Saeed Kamali Dehghan | Wednesday, February 09, 2011

No. 1 Nation in Sexy Web Searches? Call it Pornistan

FOX NEWS: They may call it the "Land of the Pure," but Pakistan turns out to be anything but.

The Muslim country, which has banned content on at least 17 websites to block offensive and blasphemous material, is the world's leader in online searches for pornographic material, FoxNews.com has learned.

“You won’t find strip clubs in Islamic countries. Most Islamic countries have certain dress codes,” said Gabriel Said Reynolds, professor of Islamic Studies at the University of Notre Dame. “It would be an irony if they haven’t shown the same vigilance to pornography.”

So here's the irony: Google ranks Pakistan No. 1 in the world in searches for pornographic terms, outranking every other country in the world in searches per person for certain sex-related content. >>> Kelli Morgan | Tuesday, July 13, 2010

This should come as no surprise. Anyone who has ever worked in the Islamic world, and who has kept his eyes open, will have experienced prurience as he will never have experienced it before in the West. The seclusion of women – purdah – is one of the main causes of this preoccupation with matters sexual in the Muslim world.

Homosexuality, too, is a huge problem in the Islamic world. Why? Because young men, when they reach puberty and become frisky, have no outlet for their sexual urges. So, what they do is look for pretty young men to fit the bill! If the young man is clean-shaven and handsome, look out!

This is one reason why the French and Belgians are so much wiser than the Brits and the Americans. The burqah should be banned. The Belgians have banned it already; the French will have banned it very soon. Britain should follow suit. But our politicians lack the balls to take such a bold step.

Children need to be raised in mixed sex environments. That way they grow up taking interaction between the sexes for granted. If children are raised the Islamic way, it leads to an unhealthy attitude to sex, to the opposite sex, and to everything related to things sexual.

Texas GOP* Platform Advocates Criminalizing Gay Marriage, Banning Strip Clubs, Pornography

THE HUFFINGTON POST: Texas Republicans recently unveiled a policy platform that includes a statement of support for legislation that would make it a felony to issue a marriage license to same-sex couples as well as for an official to perform a marriage ceremony for gay partners wishing to wed.

The 25-page proposal debuted last week as a guiding light for the state GOP over the next two years defines its position by saying:
Marriage Licenses - We support legislation that would make it a felony to issue a marriage license to a same-sex couple and for any civil official to perform a marriage ceremony for such.

Spanish Priest Offered Sexual Services and Spent Church Funds on Pornography

THE TELEGRAPH: A Spanish priest has been sacked after it emerged he advertised himself as a male prostitute on the internet and spent church funds on telephone sex and internet pornography.

Samuel Martin Martin, 27, the priest of two small parishes in the central province of Toledo, posted images of himself posing in grey underpants and said he was available for sex sessions with women and couples for 120 euros an hour.

Calling himself Hector, the priest described himself in an online advertisement as: "Heterosexual man for women and couples. Real photos. Well hung (15cm) to give you pleasure and happiness."

The scandal has made headlines across Catholic Spain where newspapers reprinted the photo and text from the advertisement. "I am open to everything except sadism. Hotels and private addresses. 24 hours. You won't regret it, I will give you pleasure like never before," it said. >>> Fiona Govan in Madrid | Thursday, February 25, 2010

Gay Activists Attack Ugandan Preacher's Porn Slideshow

THE GUARDIAN: Pastor's explicit stunt condemned as 'twisted homophobic propaganda'

A Ugandan pastor who screened same-sex pornography in a church to try to bolster support for proposed anti-homosexuality legislation has been condemned by gay rights groups.

Martin Ssempa, one of the main backers of a bill that would impose the death penalty for some offenders, aired the explicit slideshow to several hundred people during a church service in Kampala yesterday. Explaining his decision to display the images, the evangelical preacher said it was necessary to educate people "about what homosexuals do".

He told the BBC's Network Africa programme: "In Africa, what you do in your bedroom affects our clan, it affects our tribe, it affects our nation."

While Ssempa represents the extreme end of widely held homophobic views in Uganda, he does carry strong influence. On his website he describes himself as "consultant to the government of Uganda", and his congregants yesterday included David Bahati, the MP who submitted the private member's bill to parliament last year.

The porn stunt caused anger among gay activists. South African-based gay rights group Behind the Mask described it as "twisted homophobic propaganda". >>> Xan Rice in Nairobi | Thursday, February 18, 2010

US Senator's Chief of Staff: 'Porn Will Turn You Gay'

PINK NEWS: The well-known chief of staff for a Republican senator has said that boys should be told that looking at pornography will turn them gay.

Michael Schwartz, chief of staff for Oklahoma Senator Tom Coburn, was speaking at the Value Voters Summit, the same venue where former Miss California Carrie Prejean said yesterday that God'd [sic] divine intervention had led to her comments against gay marriage.

According to the Washington Independent, Schwartz said: "Pornography is a blight. It is a disaster. It is one of those silent diseases in our society that we haven't been able to overcome very well. >>> Jessica Geen | Tuesday, September 22, 2009

Swilling Beer, Smoking Dope and Leering at Porn, the Other Side of Hate Preacher 'Andy' Choudary

MAIL Online: The British live 'like animals in a jungle' with their alcohol, gambling, prostitution and pornography.

That is the stated view of Anjem Choudary, the preacher of hate who this week insulted the families of dead soldiers and branded their marching comrades as cowards.

The extremist wants Britain to be brought under Sharia law, with women forced to wear burkas and put to death for adultery.

Yet before he grew his beard and turned to fundamentalism, Choudary, 41, was very much the life and soul of the party at Southampton University.

Photographs obtained by the Mail suggest 'Andy' - as he was then known - should be inflicting on himself the 40 lashes he prescribes for drunkenness.

As well as downing cider and lager, the cleric is shown playing drinking games with cards, clearly forbidden under his strict Islamic laws, and holding a cannabis joint between his lips before smoking it.

And the woman on the cover of the Mayfair pornographic magazine he is looking at is certainly not wearing a burka.

On the evidence of friends from his student days, Choudary had sex with numerous white Christian girls.

Under his version of Sharia law, he should be stoned to death for sex outside marriage.

One former friend said: 'I can't keep a straight face when I see "fundamentalist Muslim Anjem Choudary" in the papers attacking the British for drinking or having girlfriends.

'When I knew him, he liked to be called Andy, would often smoke cannabis spliffs all day, and was proud of his ability to down a pint of cider in a couple of seconds. >>> By Neil Sears | Saturday, March 14, 2009

Saudi men are addicted to pornography on the Web; Saudi women, to chatting

SAUDI GAZETTE: Internet addiction has come to the Kingdom, affecting both Saudi men and women, specialists say. Saudi women are primarily addicted to chatting while Saudi men tend to be addicted to pornography sites.

The growing popularity of the internet among Saudis coupled with the decreasing price of Internet connections, more and more psychologists are seeing patients who complain of internet addictions.

"Internet addiction is becoming a big problem," said Ibtihal Abo Baker, a psychotherapist practicing in Riyadh. "People are escaping reality and running away from their pain to an online retreat. They are basically using the internet as a survival mechanism."

While men seem to be finding sexual revelations online, Saudi women are finding an unsheltered world platform where they can enter men's majleses, argue, discuss, vent their inner feeling and chat with anyone from any part of the world and of any sex.
