THE TELEGRAPH: Members of the public will be given the right to nominate unpopular laws they want scrapped, Nick Clegg has announced the Your Freedom initiative intended to begin a shift of power away from the state to the people.
In an article for The Daily Telegraph, the Deputy Prime Minister says that “people, not policy-makers” are the best judges of which “unnecessary laws” should be repealed.
Your Freedom: suggest the laws you want repealed
The “radically different” approach is part of the Coalition’s attempt to redress the balance between the citizen and the state, Mr Clegg argues. He says it is not for Government to tell people “how to live their lives” and that civil liberties should be restored and laws stifling businesses abandoned.
As part of Mr Clegg’s initiative, Telegraph.co.uk is providing a Your Freedom link to the Cabinet Office website where people can put forward their suggestions for which laws should be targeted.
In his article, Mr Clegg says: “Today we are taking an unprecedented step. Based on the belief that it is people, not policy-makers, who know best, we are asking the people of Britain to tell us how you want to see your freedom restored.
“We are calling for your ideas on how to protect our hard-won liberties and repeal unnecessary laws. And we want to know how best to scale back excessive regulation that denies businesses the space to innovate.
“We’re hoping for virtual mailbags full of suggestions. Every single one will be read, with the best put to Parliament. >>> Andrew Porter, Political Editor | Thursday, July 01, 2010
Your Freedom
THE TELEGRAPH: Your Freedom: Nick Clegg calls on public to help repeal bad laws: Nick Clegg has announced the Your Freedom initiative intended to give members of the public the right to nominate unpopular laws they want scrapped. >>>
THE TELEGRAPH: The state has crept further and further into people’s homes and their private lives under the cover of pretending to act in our best interest. That needs to change, says Nick Clegg.
During their 13 years in power, the Labour Government developed a dangerous reflex. Faced with whatever problem, legislation increasingly became the standard response. Something needs fixing? Let’s pass a new law.
And so, over the last decade, thousands of new rules and regulations have amassed on the statute book. And it is our liberty that has paid the price. Under the cover of pretending to act in our best interest, the state has crept further and further into people’s homes and their private lives. That intrusion is disempowering. It needs to change.
The Coalition Government is determined to restore great British freedoms. Major steps have been taken already. ID cards have been halted. Plans are underway to restrict the storage of innocent people’s DNA. Schools will no longer be able to take children’s fingerprints without their parents consent.
But we need to do more. The culture of state snooping has become so ingrained that we must tackle it with renewed vigour. And, especially in these difficult times, entrepreneurs and businesses need our help. We must ensure we are not tying them up in restrictive red tape. Freedom is back in fashion >>> Nick Clegg, Deputy Prime Minister | Thursday, July 01, 2010

If this cartoon fiasco has shown us anything, it's shown us that the free world is in grave danger of losing its freedoms; indeed, we will lose our freedoms, one by one, one step at a time, if we don't finally wake up to the reality which is staring us in the face. The reality of Islam, the enemy. Islam is not only knocking at our door, but it has been let in, and it's now trying to destroy us, our civilization, and destroy all we stand for, for its own ultimate supremacy!
Since 9/11, our leaders have been kicking out garbage by the sackful ! They've been busy placating the electorate and appeasing the Muslims, by saying that Islam really is a moderate religion of peace and love. Tosh! Poppycock! Garbage! Baloney! Rubbish!
Islam is nothing of the kind. Islam, if it is anything at all, is a ferocious killer: It's a big huge roaring lion, not a tiny little meowing pussycat!
There is nothing loving or peaceful about Islam. History shows us this is so. To be loving and peaceful is not its nature. Islam is a proselytizing, conquering, bloodthirsty religion; and in the same way that a Muslim has to submit totally to Allah, we, the conquered, will have to submit to the will of the Muslim, too!
Till now, our politicians, with very few exceptions, have been totally unwilling to admit the truth: That Islam is the problem we face; Islam is the enemy.
As I was born after the end of World War II, I have witnessed nothing like this before in my lifetime. The West, though it is not yet willing to admit it, is in crisis. This crisis is similar to the crisis of the Thirties. The crisis of the Thirties was caused by the unrelenting rise of Nazi Germany, profoundly anti-Semitic, and its aggressive ambitions to dominate the world. This crisis is caused by the unrelenting rise of the Muslim world, also profoundly anti-Semitic, and its aggressive ambitions to dominate the world! This is déjà vu! We've been here before. We've seen it before. We've experienced it all before. Yet, seemingly, we have learnt nothing!
Isn't it peculiar: In the same way that people during the Thirties were reluctant to face up to the inevitability of war with Nazi Germany, so people today are every bit as reluctant to face up to the inevitability of war with Islam. Indeed, it is very difficult to see how war can be avoided if we wish to maintain our free way of life. Why? Because Muslims will not give an inch. They just will not budge. They have come to the West and demand that we change to accommodate them. This is an outrage! Outrageous behaviour often leads to outrageous outcomes. Beware!
There will be a big difference between the war we had to endure with Nazi Germany and this war if it comes about: That war was an inter-national war. The war we shall have to endure with Islam will be scattered all over the world, because Muslims are to be found all over the world. So we could very well end up fighting a civil war. In any case, it will be a nasty, bloody conflict. And remember this: When we do start to fight, all the Muslims living in the West will have their first loyalty, nay one could say only loyalty, to the Ummah. This war, ladies and gentlemen, will be brutal indeed! There is no war worse than a holy war!
During the 'Cold War', people used to speak of "reds under the bed" - the so-called fifth column within. During this 'War on Terror', people could easily start speaking of the "greens under the burqah"! But this war needs to be re-named. Our unwillingness to call it by its rightful name is tying our hands behind our backs.
It really is high time Bush and Blair, and all the other leaders here in the free world, woke up to the reality of the situation. It's already five to midnight, and we haven't identified the enemy yet! When are we finally going to wake up?
