UK Population Could Hit 132 Million, Warn Official Figures

THE DAILY TELEGRAPH: New Office for National Statistics data predicts Britain's population could surge even faster than previously thought

The population of Britain could more than double in the next century unless immigration is tightly controlled, according to official estimates showing it could grow 40 per cent faster than previously thought.

Only weeks after the Office for National Statistics predicted that the UK will have 10 million more people within the next 25 years, it published new estimates showing that the true figure could be four million higher.

The dramatic upward revision suggests the population of Britain could rise from its current record level of 63.7 million to just under 78 million by 2037.

On the same projection it could reach and as much as 132 million by this time next century. » | John Bingham, and David Barrett | Tuesday, December 10, 2013

UK Has Biggest Population Boom in Europe as Half a Million Migrants Enter in One Year

DAILY EXPRESS: MORE than a half a million immigrants entered the country in the last year, leading to the UK having the biggest population boom in Europe.

The UK's population grew to 63.7 million, with the highest birth rate since 1972 contributing to the rise.

Migration from overseas accounted for 517,800 of the population flow into the UK while 352,100 people left the country, putting net migration at 165,600 for the year.

Many of the migrants to the UK are from China, India, Germany, USA, Pakistan, Poland and Australia.

The overall population growth was 419,900, with 254,400 more births than deaths pushing the UK to becoming the third largest EU nation behind Germany and France.

Ukip leader Nigel Farage said the figures showed the failure of the Government "to get a grip on immigration into this country".

He said: "The results of this increase in population can be felt in communities up and down the country as public services struggle to cope with the increase in demand.

"At the same time we face cuts to front line services and send billions of pounds abroad in foreign aid.

"And this is before Romanian and Bulgarian citizens have full access to the UK come January next year. » | Owen Bennett | Thursday, August 08, 2013

UK’s Foreign Baby Boom

DAILY EXPRESS: A MIGRANT baby boom is sending Britain’s population soaring with one in four children now born to foreign mothers.

Of the 708,708 births last year, 170,089 or 24 per cent were to immigrant mothers. It is the highest number of migrant births in the UK since records began.

The increase will worry ministers because it threatens to put even more pressure on public services, with schools and hospitals already struggling to cope.

Sir Andrew Green, of the respected think tank Migrationwatch UK, said: “These figures illustrate the massive impact immigration is having, not only on our population but also on our society.

“It’s no wonder our polls show nearly 80 per cent of people are concerned about the high level of immigration to the UK and more than 70 per cent want to see a huge cut.

“The number of babies born to immigrant mothers is a clear-cut example of the pressure that massive numbers of immigrants place on our public services.”

Such is the rapid increase in the migrant birth rate that this year it is expected to be the biggest cause of population growth, outstripping immigration for the first time. >>> By Sarah O'Grady, Social Affairs Correspondent | Friday, May 22, 2009
