Rwandan Red Meat for the Tory racists, a law-breaking Prime Minister defended by gutless Tory MPs who have this week lost any shred of dignity or integrity, more COVID deaths than any other country in the world at the same time as the government tell us we’re world beating on COVID, a suggestion that the irrelevant Boris Johnson is somehow leading the world on Ukraine after his grubby photo op in Kiev. Against this backdrop, and flying almost completely under the radar, is the on-going catastrophe of Brexit. So many developments to tell you about.

Apr 2, 2022 • Every serious independent economist argued that massively raising barriers with your main trade partner is an extraordinary act of self-harm. And now, 6 years too late, the extreme right-wing Brexit backing Express newspaper last week carried the headline “Brexit blamed as UK exports drop 14% – Britain 'missing out' on global trade”. Eventhough the article went on to trumpet the world-beating amount of trade deals the UK has struck, it concluded by reporting the Office of Budget Responsibility statement that Brexit has meant a 14% drop in exports, and also reported economist Gabriella Dickens’ comment that UK export growth would remain sluggish “as UK exporters continued “to be slowly cut out of global supply chains, due to the extra administrative burden for EU firms of sourcing goods from Britain”. As every single day seems to bring a new reminder of how stupid an idea Brexit was, is there now a widespread acceptance that every one of those economists was right, and that Brexit is a contributing factor to the current cost of living crisis?

Feb 19, 2022 • Remoaners, rejoiners, traitors, whatever the Brexit brigade want to call the pro-European community, every passing week brings fresh evidence that it’s US who are on the right side of history. This week, according to the British Chamber of Commerce, 71% of UK exporters said Brexit was not helping them, and the majority of businesses also think Brexit, quote, “pushed up costs, increased paperwork and delays, and put the UK at a competitive disadvantage”. And according to the Office of National Statistics, post-Brexit exports to the EU were down 20 billion pounds last year. That’s a 12% hit to trade with the UK’s largest trading partner.

Where are those ‘men in grey suits’ when you need them most? This clown and his troupe of trumpliconettes are adept at enriching themselves; alas, they are also adept at impoverishing the nation! They need to be ushered out of the door of Number 10 asap along with the ‘Trumpliconette-in-Chief’, before any more damage is done to this country’s once proud reputation and before our nation is impoverished still further. – © Mark

Nov 24, 2021 • The Tories’ Health and Care Bill had its first reading in parliament this week and it’s all looking pretty scary. It paves the way for the dismantling of the NHS as we know it, to be replaced by an American-style private insurance based system, allowing plenty of opportunities for self-enrichment on behalf of all those companies donating and buddying up to the current appalling, corrupt government.

If Sajid Javid is one of Ayn Rand's devotees, that tells me all I need to know about him! Enough already! Ayn Rand spent her life espousimg extreme right-wing economics and her own ideological claptrap. She had questionable morals and actually ended her days on welfare – the very thing she spent her life decrying and criticising others for doing!

Alan Greenspan, the one-time head of the Fed, was also one of Ayn Rand's devotees. That tells its own story!

BoJo and his sleazy operators need to keep their dirty mitts off our NHS. The last thing we need in this country is an American-style medical system. I know more than most Brits how that functions. My late partner was American and I looked after him both at home and in hospital for many, many months at a time. I can report that, at its best, American healthcare is excellent; however, at its worst, it is very poor indeed. And of course for those who have no means, there is no healthcare for them at all (except, perhaps, for that provided by charity)!

But even with the best of insurance, which my late partner had, it is a system set up to make profit rather than to make the patient well again. Further, when the patient has cost the insurance company too much already, doctors get instructions to pull the plug on the patient's treatment!

Nov 10, 2021 • The independent office of Budget Responsibility, funded by the UK Treasury, has established that despite the UK securing a much hyped trade deal at the last minute, Brexit has nevertheless shrunk the UK economy by 4% in the long term. And according to the government’s own figures, UK Brexit trade losses are more than 178 times larger than gains from the much-vaunted trade deals secured by Liz 'cut and paste' truss and her successor, climate change sceptic, Anne Marie Trevelyan. But Brexit may be about to get a whole lot worse. With COP26 out of the way, the UK is now threatening to trigger Article 16 of the Northern Ireland Protocol, which could prompt the European Union to suspend the post-Brexit trade deal altogether, and impose tariffs on all UK goods entering the EU.

Oct 9, 2021 • Following Boris Johnson's Tory Party conference speech where he told the party faithful that the U.K. was to be transformed from a low skill/low pay economy to a high skill/high pay version without giving any idea how this nonsense might be achieved, things continue to go from bad to worse with no end of problems mounting up. Earlier this week Rob Groves of the excellent channel Truth to Power and I answered some questions which some of my followers had kindly sent in.

UK gas prices are currently the highest in Europe, with some industry experts stating that this is at least partly because of Brexit and the UK no longer being part of a European Union arrangement to aggregate gas supply across the bloc. Well, maybe that’s true and maybe it isn’t, but what is beyond doubt is that in the latest plot development in Brexit the disaster movie: Marks & Spencer are closing more than half its stores in France due to Brexit supply problems, and a quarter of small UK businesses have now suspended EU sales altogether, due to post-Brexit rules. And this is just the tip of the iceberg.

BoJo is a know-nothing when it comes to economics. Nobody in his right mind who knows even just a little about economics would walk away from a single market of 500m+ consumers. That is the Single Market which Margaret Thatcher worked hard to bring about. It brought us prosperity.

Brexit is going to make this country much, much poorer. It is going to turn this country into the ‘Sick Man of Europe’ again. We’ve been there once before.

The selection of goods in the supermarkets has shrunk significantly; and what is available is generally inferior. Fruit and vegetables quickly go mildew in the salad crisper. That never happened before this damn Brexit.

The fact is that the tw*ts—use the vowel of your own choosing—have screwed up – BIG TIME.

But it should also be borne in mind that we Brits have lost our rights as European citizens, rights such as the right to set up a business, the right to buy a residence, the right to free healthcare, the right to love across frontiers, and many more rights besides. I, for one, resent losing my European rights. Despite once being a dyed-in-the-wool Conservative voter, I declare here and now that I shall never vote for the Conservatives again. I could never trust them.

The once united United Kingdom has been turned into the disUnited Kingdom; and I can’t see that changing for very many years to come.

I DO NOT respect the result of the Brexit referendum for ONE simple reason: It was NOT democratic. It was also badly designed. Further, the voters were fed claptrap and lies about the European Union.

I, for one, am ashamed of the way that the UK, under BoJo and his cabinet of jesters, is being governed. This is not the United Kingdom I once knew and loved. This whole Brexit saga is sad and stupid. Moreover it is going to impoverish the nation. – © Mark

Brexit is going to cause untold, ongoing problems for this country for years and years to come. It was a stupid idea from the very beginning. Nobody, in his right mind, who understands anything about economics would turn his back on the European 'Single Market' – the biggest single market in the world. Sep 18, 2021 • As Labour overtake the Tories in the polls for the first time since the pandemic started, one third of Boris Johnson’s failing ministers have been moved sideways or booted out during this week’s cabinet reshuffle. I don’t think it’s a coincidence. We take a look at some of those leaving or joining Johnsons top team, and what it means for the future of Johnson’s government. Boris Johnson has today described his cabinet as his rugby squad, with references to half time pep talks, gum shields and other nonsense. The usual Johnson bluster, but what it does show is that he considers governing the country to be just one big game.
