Jihad: A Wake Up Call
YNET NEWS: Western democracies should keep in mind that strong Israel deters Jihad

Jihad (Holy War) has been a cardinal feature of Islam since the 7th Century. It constitutes a clear and present danger to Western democracies, irrespective of the Arab-Israeli conflict, independent of the Palestinian issue and regardless of Israel's policies and existence.

Hebrew University Prof. Moshe Sharon, a world renowned authority on Islam, sheds light on Jihad in Islam against Israel and the West (2007):

"Jihad is the strategy and, therefore, agreements are a (tactical) interlude in the war (against the infidel),” he writes.

Sharon also notes the following: "Islam came to being as a fighting religion. Mohammed imposed his authority by means of his military strength…Islam was born in order to rule, as is only fitting for the religion of Allah which is one and exclusive”

"Any territory that was ever Muslim becomes sacred to Islam,” Sharon further notes. “If the territory is conquered by enemies of Islam, like Spain, Palestine and parts of Europe, it is incumbent upon Islam to do everything to restore it to Islamic rule.”

Finally, Sharon explains that "The laws of Jihad…form the basis of the relations between the Muslim world and the West…The only possible relations between Muslims and non-Muslims are war or a limited ceasefire.”

“Any sign of weakness is a clear call to renew Jihad,” he says. “An agreement which contains anything beyond a limited armistice or ceasefire is null and void. The only agreement with non-believers that is permitted by Islamic law is one that enables Islam to strengthen itself, so that when the time comes it can resume Jihad in better conditions.”

New York Police: Suspects Aimed for 'Jihad' in Synagogue Bomb Plot
HAARETZ: Four men arrested after planting what they thought were explosives near two synagogues and plotting to shoot down a military plane were bent on carrying out "jihad," a holy war, against America, authorities said Thursday.

The suspects were arrested Wednesday night, shortly after placing a 17-kilogram device they thought was an explosive in the trunk of a car outside the Riverdale Temple and two mock bombs in the backseat of a car outside the Riverdale Jewish Center, another synagogue a few blocks away, authorities said.

Police blocked their escape with an 18-wheel truck, smashing their tinted SUV windows and apprehending the unarmed suspects.

At a news conference outside the Riverdale Temple in the Bronx, Police Commissioner Raymond Kelly quoted one of the men as saying, "If Jews were killed in this attack ... that would be all right." >>> By News Agencies | Thursday, May 21, 2009

THE TELEGRAPH: Large crowds raised cries for holy war and vowed revenge at the burial of three men executed by the Indonesian government for their role in the 2003 Bali bombings.

Imam Samudra, 38, Amrozi, 47, and his brother Mukhlas, 48, were tied to posts on the prison island of Nusakambangan shortly after midnight. The trio refused the offer of blindfolds before being killed by a single shot to the heart. The bodies were then moved to home villages for burial.

Chaotic scenes climaxed as two crows flew over one ceremony, an event interpreted as God gathering the souls of the two brothers and taken as sign of rapture.

Relatives of British victims expressed dismay that the Indonesian authorities had portrayed the relatively minor figures as central to the plot that killed 202 people in co-ordinated suicide attacks in 2002. The three never expressed remorse, saying the bombings were meant to punish the U.S. and its Western allies for alleged atrocities in Afghanistan and elsewhere.

"Justice is supposed to have two strands to it. One is to pay recompense for the crime committed and the other is a deterrent.," said Susanna Miller, whose brother Dan was killed in the attacks, amd a member of the UK Bali Bombings Victims' Group. "If you undermine the deterrent by effectively encouraging, allowing these people to be seen as martyrs and encouraging the Islamist cause then no it makes a mockery of justice.

"They didn't kill my brother. None of those three men were the bombers - they didn't make the bombs, they didn't set them off, they were secondary to the bombing plot and the most important person in relation to the plot is currently held in Guantanamo Bay." OBL Calls for Holy War Against Peacekeepers in Darfur
THE SYDNEY MORNING HERALD: Al-Qaeda leader Osama Bin Laden has called for a holy war against a proposed peacekeeping force in Sudan's war torn region of Darfur, in a message that appeared on jihadi websites on Tuesday.

The audio recording was accompanied by a still picture and excerpts were aired by pan-Arab satellite news channel al-Jazeera yesterday.

Bin Laden called on those living in the areas surrounding Darfur, particularly the Arabian peninsula, to drive out any foreign forces in the region. Bin Laden calls for jihad against peacekeepers (more)
