Anti-American & Pro-Russian? The Uncertain Course of Germany's Parties ahead of the Federal Election

Jan 29, 2025 | Pro-Russian, anti-American parties are expected to win a quarter of the votes, if not more, in Germany’s upcoming elections. The far-right Alternative for Germany and the left-wing conservative Sahra Wagenknecht Alliance want Germany to drop sanctions on Russia and start importing gas again. The success of US and Nato sceptic parties could present a major challenge to the transatlantic relationship particularly on security and trade.
