Carols from King's 60 Years of Carols from King's College, Cambridge (2014)

An amazing documentary broadcast on the BBC Christmas Day 2014. Features rare footage from many years of the Carol broadcasts since 1954 and revealing interviews with giants of Choral composing today such as John Rutter and Bob Chilcott, both past choral scholars at Kings. As well as an interview with Jonathan Willcocks son of the great Sir David Willcocks who will be 95 this year. An unbelievably good Christmas gift and treat.

Man in Nazi Uniform Kicked Out of Asda

Man in SS uniform in Asda, Cambridge
THE DAILY TELEGRAPH: A man was asked to leave an Asda store after browsing the aisles wearing an SS-style uniform

A man was kicked out of his local Asda after turning up in a full Nazi uniform.

The middle aged shopper wearing a black SS outfit, complete with cap and red armband emblazoned with a swastika, was asked to leave by the manager after other customers complained.

Paul Dutton, 48, from Cambridge, claimed responsibility for the upset using his Twitter account.

Under the name Operation Fail Safe, he said: "I wear a black SS armband in Asda twice a week for past three years.

"I've shopped in Asda since the place was opened twice a week, this is how Asda repay me for my loyalty."

He said he had wanted to hand out cards promoting his website, which explains the reasons for his fascination with Adolf Hitler. » | Miranda Prynne, News Reporter | Friday, October 01, 2013

Anti-fascist Protesters Greet Speech by Marine Le Pen at Cambridge

THE GUARDIAN: French women [sic] who took over leadership of Front National party from her father, addresses university's debating society

Marine Le Pen, leader of the French far-right Front National party, was greeted by an anti-fascist protest as she addressed a Cambridge University debating group on Tuesday.

The daughter of Jean-Marie Le Pen, who took over the party leadership from her father in 2011, spoke to students at the Cambridge Union Society in the afternoon.

Her appearance led the group Unite Against Fascism to organise a demonstration of about 200 people outside the venue. Officers from Cambridgeshire police attended.

Le Pen, 44, who has been an MEP since 2004, spoke about the future of the EU and French politics. A spokesman for the Union Society defended the decision to invite her to speak. » | Press Association | Tuesday, February 19, 2013

Cambridge Police Demand Apology from Barack Obama Over 'Stupid' Comments

THE TELEGRAPH: American police unions have demanded an apology from Barack Obama after he accused an officer of "acting stupidly" by arresting leading black scholar, Prof Henry Louis Gates.

Police representatives queued up at a press conference to insist race had played no part in the incident and the president should retract his "disgraceful" comments and apologise to Sgt James Crowley.

However Mr Obama refused to apologise at a hastily arranged White House press conference where he said: "In my choice of words, I unfortunately gave the impression that I was maligning the Cambridge Police Department or Sergeant Crowley specifically."

"My words didn't illuminate they only added to the media attention," he added.

He also revealed that he had telephoned Sgt Crowley.

Mr Obama criticised police earlier this week after the incident involving Prof Henry Louis Gates who was arrested after trying to force a jammed front door at his home near Harvard University. >>> Alex Spillius in Washington | Friday, July 24, 2009
