Spain’s Granada Shaken by 4.8 Earthquake Days after Saturday Tremor

August 18, 2026 | A powerful earthquake has shaken the Spanish city of Granada, spreading panic and causing a building to collapse.

The tremor, which was also felt in neighbouring provinces such as Almería, has registered as a 4.8 on the Richter scale. It comes following an earthquake on Saturday that measured 5 and left a trail of destruction with panicking holidaymakers running from their hotels.

The southern city of Granada, known for its stunning Alhambra Palace, was rocked by the latest tremor just after 10.30am local time. Residents felt the walls and ceilings shake with footage showing one building crumbling into the street.
