BoJo belongs in a circus! Circuses are the natural homes for clowns!
We have had a string of clowns trying to govern us since that ridiculous Brexit referendum. And what a dog’s dinner they have all made of governing us, too!
Referendums are generally not used in this country. We have a representative democracy. We have only ever had three referendums across the United Kingdom. The very first was held in 1975 on our membership of the then so-called Common Market, which eventually became the European Union.
Margaret Thatcher was very much against referenda. She believed them to be the devices of dictators and demagogues!
To ask an electorate for its views on a subject such as the European Union was bad enough. Why? Because few voters truly understood the workings of the European Union, and still less the ramifications on the economy and Britain’s standing in the world should we leave the Union. So, that referendum was absurd enough. But to do what BoJo now suggests and ask the people to vote on our membership of the ECHR as well takes absurdity to a whole new level. How much sense does it make to ask an electorate to vote on something they simply do not understand?
BoJo is playing fast and loose with the future of this country. It would be preferably if he kept his batty ideas to himself! This country is in enough of a mess as a result of the last referendum, there is no need for BoJo to add to the country’s woes. The same goes for Britain's troublemaker par excellence, otherwise known as Nigel Farage. Trump's chum. – © Mark Alexander
