MAIL Online: The first ever Muslim virtual world has launched today, following in the footsteps of popular online communities such as Second Life.
Called Muxlim Pal, it allows users to look after a cartoon avatar or 'pal' who can move around the world, which promotes Islamic culture.
Users can buy gift such as tea sets with online currency to give to their friends and pals can also go to prayer rooms and dress in clothing including hijabs.
Each pal has a number of 'meters' that govern spirituality, happiness, fitness and knowledge, which change as the character carries out tasks.
'We are not a religious site, we are a site that is focused on the Muslim lifestyle,' said Mohamed El-Fatatry, founder of Muxlim.com, which launched the virtual world.
'As no other virtual world offers a family-friendly environment for our community, we felt there was a need to cater for the people who were being left out.' >>> | December 9, 2008
