Vatican Rethinks the Crusades

THE Vatican has begun moves to rehabilitate the Crusaders by sponsoring a conference at the weekend that portrays the Crusades as wars fought with the “noble aim” of regaining the Holy Land for Christianity.

The Crusades are seen by many Muslims as acts of violence that have underpinned Western aggression towards the Arab world ever since. Followers of Osama bin Laden claim to be taking part in a latter-day “jihad against the Jews and Crusaders”. Read all of Richard Owen's article here: Vatican change of heart over 'barbaric' Crusades

Mark,

Isn't this encouraging? I posted this same article last week.

The new Pope is supposed to be an intellectual heavyweight so his detractors may find it difficult to refute what he says.

I'm so glad that he is taking a stand for the truth. It's about time someone did.

With leaders like Blair and Bush and your wacky Prince the future was looking pretty bleak.

It is encouraging, Heather. But we need a lot more of this sort of thing yet, before we can feel on safe ground.

It's high time that the truth about the Crusades gets out there. This Pope sees through the veil, I think.

Robert Spencer's Guide contains excellent material about the Crusades. Now what we need to do is scrutininze the schoolbooks, which demonize the Crusades (for the most part).

High time, too!

He certainly does. He's a colossus of a man! I have a lot of time and great respect for the man.

Maybe Robert Spencer's book should become one of the school books! Required reading for all youg children growing up in America (and maybe the West in its entirety, too).
