Italy may become Abdul Rahman's new home

Image hosting by Photobucket
Italy is considering granting asylum to Abdul Rahman, the Afghan man who was released from jail yesterday in Kabul, where he had faced the death penalty for converting to Christianity.

He was staying in a safe house last night after prosecutors dropped the case against him under intense international pressure. But Mr Rahman will have to flee the country for his own safety, after several leading Muslim clerics called on Afghans to kill him.

Mr Rahman appealed for help to leave Afghanistan, and he is thought most likely to go to Italy, where the Foreign Minister, Gianfranco Fini is to ask the cabinet today to grant him asylum. Read all the article here: Italy may offer asylum to Afghan Christian convert

At least Italy is stepping forward!

Yes, at least Italy. The other countries are pretty slow to do so, Always.

Mark,

Delighted to get email response. Have "replied" on that one and want to alert you to it, in case of another email conflummatation.

Abdul Rahman's predicament really evokes a lot of responses. First off, this poor fellow belongs in the West, and Italy did a noble thing by receiving him--even though there are loads of nutsy Muslims there.

Except for being an unintended Christian "martyr," Abdul may be the most important "happening" since the Dubai ports fiasco. He possibly awakened a lot of sleeping Christians who have been passively giving Islam an undeserved respect. At least, I hope. If Western Christians learn just that it is ok to be critical and unaccepting of Islam, without giving up their Christianity or feeling guilt, then poor Abdul Rahman will have advanced freedom more than all the contemporary politicians and intelligentsia.

A BIG welcome to my weblog, George!

Yes, I agree: He does belong in the West. But isn't it sad that he has to come to the West fo safety after we have supposedly brought democracy to them! :-) (That's a joke!)

I agree wholeheartedly.

He possibly awakened a lot of sleeping Christians who have been passively giving Islam an undeserved respect.

Christians, especially the established ones of the Church of England ilk, have been cutting Muslims far too much slack for far too long with their ridiculous 'interfaith dialogues'. You know what my feelings are on interfaith dialogue: How can one engage in dialogue with such an uncompromising faith, and a faith which is out to destroy your own?

If Western Christians learn just that it is ok to be critical and unaccepting of Islam, without giving up their Christianity or feeling guilt, then poor Abdul Rahman will have advanced freedom more than all the contemporary politicians and intelligentsia.

Here! Here!

I hope that this event causes the Christian clergy to wake up. They have been strangely silent, from parish priest to the Archbishop of Canterbury. At least the Pope has spoken up... Where has the responsiblility for teaching Christian men and women gone? The clergy seem to be "fiddling while Rome burns..." that is they are consumed with trivialities in the face of the onslaught of Islam. The Christian Church would not have survived for 20 centuries if Christians were so taciturn in times gone by.

This is indeed a problem, especiallly among evangelical Christians. But some have been catching on, I think.

Yes, so do I. But how much hope is there that they will?

They have been strangely silent, from parish priest to the Archbishop of Canterbury.

Haven't they, though? But are we surprised? Who among them shows any courage? Can you name one, except some in the Roman Catholic Church?

At least the Pope has spoken up...

Yes, the Pope has. He towers over them all. He is a colossus of a man. I admire him greatly (even though I am not a Roman Catholic). This Pope has written a lot about Islam. He has made a study of the subject. And he displays a depth of understanding, and he is very, very shrewd to boot.

Where has the responsiblility for teaching Christian men and women gone?

Good question!

The clergy seem to be "fiddling while Rome burns..."

Aren't they all, clergy and politicians alike?

they are consumed with trivialities in the face of the onslaught of Islam.

They haven't got the spunk to deal with it! But it will have to be dealt with if Western civilization is to survive. We shall have to confront the Muslim world, even the Muslims who reside within our own countries. To do this, it will take a man of Churchillian proportions. And he has to be found; otherwise we are sunk.

Dealing with Islam properly - not the way they are tinkering with it now - will be unpleasant for us all. But we will have to do it, and we shall all have to pay the price - the price for the stupidity of allowing all these people into the West. People who wish to destroy our civilization!

The Christian Church would not have survived for 20 centuries if Christians were so taciturn in times gone by.

No it most certainly would not have. But our forefathers were prepared to engage in the Crusades for their beliefs. What are these wimps prepared to do? Sometimes I feel that they do not even know what the Christian message is! They make the mistake of taking Jesus' words out of context, words such as turning the other cheek. Jesus was a radical. He was no wimp! He didn't mean that we need to turn the other cheek when faced with a force of darkness, a force of darkness out to destroy everything that Christendom (oh how I love that word!) stands for.

We need to fight the good fight! Now! Before it's too late.

Look at this man Abdul Rahman. He was prepared to die for his faith. What an object lesson he is for Westerners! How many of us are prepared to die for our faith? How many of us are prepared to die for our civilization?

The time is soon approaching in which we shall have to choose between life and death. We shall have to take some tough decisions if this force of evil is to be vanquished.

George Mason (pbuh):

Yes indeed! But not only Christians. All Westerners need to learn that it is okay to criticise Islam. Westerners - erroneously in my opinion - somehow believe that criticising another's faith is off limits. This is nonsense! Muslims are not backward when it comes to criticising our faith, or lack of it. They call us infidels! That word, to them, has all sorts of awful conotations. So how disparaging is that?

Westerners need to remember this: Fire has to be fought with fire!
