New Bin Laden tape

To read the full story from the BBC, click HERE. To read the actual transcript of the tape, click HERE.

But the Daily Telegraph asks the question: Is defiant tape a sign of weakness?

Quote of the day:

White House Spokesman Scott McClellan: "We do not negotiate with terrorists. We put them out of business." (Source: The BBC)

For our French-speaking visitors:

Ben Laden : des opérations sont en cours aux Etats-Unis

For our German-speaking visitors:

Bin Laden droht mit neuen Anschlägen gegen USA

For our Italian-speaking visitors:

Bin Laden: «Nuovi attentati negli Usa»

You must be watching the wrong channel! Fox News is certainly not 'yapping' about a truce. At least not of the possibility of signing one!

I was watching a local news channel. But it is a Fox affiliate.

I notice today a different kind of coverage on FNC.

Yesterday I had a long workday, so I missed almost all of Dr. Walid Phares' comments.

Reports from
MEMRI
say al-Jazeera's translation is flawed and will soon publish their own.

My blood started to boil as I read what this moron had to say. His thoughts seemed disjointed and incoherent at times. So much of it was convoluted baloney. I think you should do a paragraph by paragraph rebuttal on the fiction from this blathering idiot.

Speaking of fiction, does he think he's Oprah? Recommending the book, "Rogue State?" Sad to say, when I went to Amazon to look it up it is now number 43 in sales (in the US), published in 2000.

I agree with the article from the Daily Telegraph--their is no doubt in my mind that we would have been attacked (many times) by now if he had been able to do it.

We need to give credit to our military, and those in law enforcement, from the local, state & federal level to intelligence agencies worldwide for thwarting potential attacks, many we will never know about.

One of my favorite quotes is from Thomas Jefferson, "The price of freedom is eternal vigilance."

We all need to remain vigilant to combat those who want to do us harm.

Heather:

Loved your comment, especially the part about 'the moron'!

I have been away from my computer for some hours, so I am not yet up to speed about the mistranslation that Memri refers to. I shall try and track that down as soon as possible.

Yes, I thought the Telegraph piece was interesting. Further, I agree with you totally when you say that there are probably many planned attacks which we will never come to know about, attacks which have been thwarted by our excellent intelligence services. Their all doing a great job. But think of the cost to our countries because of OBL and his ilk! It doesn't bear thinking about. If it weren't for people like him, that money could be far better spent on many other things.

I fear we're in this for the long haul.

Before I read the link from Heather and get all riled up again, allow me to apologize for my frustrated comment from last night. Still having issues with my phone line here at home is not helping my mental state. The phone company told me, a few hours ago, that my line is fixed. It is not!

Another tape is out, from Zarqawi, I think.

Wall Street reacted, of course, by taking a downturn.

Also, I just heard on FNC that OBL made some kind of threat against the Alaskan Pipeline. I confess that I'm not up to speed on having done my daily reading and will try now to read more about OBL's speech.

My error...The tape today is reportedly from Ayman al-Zawahri. I guess I misheard the news break.

From this source:

A recent posting on a Web site purportedly affiliated with al-Qaida urges attacks against the trans-Alaska oil pipeline and Valdez tanker dock, calling on jihadists to either shower the pipe with bullets or hide and detonate explosives along its length.

The unknown author encourages small cells of four or five mujahedeen, or Muslim guerrillas, living in the United States or in Canada or Mexico to mount the attacks.

The 10-page posting includes numerous links to Web sites providing maps and other basic information about the pipeline.

Attacking oil and gas targets in the United States and other countries is key to bringing down the economy of the "American devils," the author writes, saying the message was posted in response to calls from Osama bin Laden and his top al-Qaida deputy, Ayman al-Zawahri....

No apology is necessary! I didn't think any more about it other than you sounded a little frustrated. We all get days like that. Be sure of that!

Whatever you write is a pleasure to read, whether you're frustrated or not.

I, too, am a little behind on developments today. Why? Please see my comment to JudahQ.

Shall be back with you all as soon as possible.

This report is indeed shocking. However, I think that if they were to try this, then I think that the so-called war on terror would escalate quite a lot. As Emeril would say: It would kick it up a notch!

This is proof, if indeed proof were needed, that Al-Qaeda's ultimate goal, and the goal of all like him, is the collapse of the American economy, and the Israeli economy, of course, too. But more than that: They want to bring down the West in its entirety. We must NEVER lose sight of that fact.

Mark,
They want to bring down the West in its entirety.

Exactly!

Yesterday I posted an article addressing this matter, in a small part. For all I know, you've already commented. I've been away from the computer much of today and haven't yet read through all the comments.

Thank you for pardoning my outburst. I'm behind as well and will try to catch up. I've been all consumed on several fronts.

On the TV news, the talking heads are speculating about how serious OBL's latest is. But the matter goes beyond that, I think. I've been addressing that in my comments to my latest article--and in the article itself, for that matter.

PS: Thank you that compliment about my writing. I do appreciate it!

What the hell have I apologized for? Get a grip!

Mussolini:

Sorry, my friend! I realized after posting that comment that I had completely misunderstood you. Please forgive me. Yes, I'm sure that you have a grip.

Hope Always On Watch took it the right way.
