Canada refused to simply accept Trump’s tariff demands, and now we’re watching a dispute between two of the world’s closest trading partners descend into presidential name-calling and symbolic stunts.
This isn’t strength. In my view, it’s childish politics with real economic consequences. Trump imposed massive new tariffs on Canadian goods, Canada retaliated, and one of America’s closest relationships is deteriorating while the president focuses on renaming a lake shared with another sovereign country.
At what point do Americans admit that this is embarrassing us on the world stage?
