'Old People Should Hurry Up and Die', Says Japan Deputy Leader

THE DAILY TELEGRAPH: Taro Aso, Japan's deputy prime minister, has been forced to pedal back from a suggestion that old people should "hurry up and die" to save the state the cost of providing them with medical care.

Mr Aso, who has a reputation for speaking indelicately, was commenting at a meeting of the National Council on Social Security Reforms on Monday on the heavy burden imposed on the nation's finances by prolonging patients' lives with treatment.

Describing patients with serious illnesses as "tube persons," Mr Aso, who is 72, said they should be "allowed to die quickly" if they want to, Kyodo News reported.

"Heaven forbid I should be kept alive if I want to die," he said. "You cannot sleep well when you think it's all paid by the government. This won't be solved unless you let them hurry up and die." » | Julian Ryall, Tokyo | Tuesday, January 22, 2013

Elderly Told: Go Back to Work and Downsize

THE DAILY TELEGRAPH: Elderly people should be encouraged to go back to work and move into smaller homes, one of David Cameron’s key advisers said last night.

David Halpern, a senior No.10 aide, said loneliness was a “more powerful predictor” of whether a pensioner would be alive for more than a decade than whether they smoked.

He also suggested that elderly people who did not move to smaller homes were contributing to the shortage of housing in England.

On an official visit to Sweden, the Prime Minister and some of his key advisers discussed radical plans on retirement with their Scandinavian counterparts.

Mr Cameron said he supported plans to increase the retirement age in line with life expectancy which could see workers remaining in employment until well into their seventies. » | Tim Ross, Political correspondent | Thursday, February 09, 2012

My comment:

So when is David Cameron going to downsize? And what about Samcam's father? He's got a pile in the country! He surely can't be using all the rooms in that mansion. Perhaps the authorities can relocate him to a council house somewhere. It will be big enough for him, according to Cameron.

Christ, I thought that the Labour governments we had were bad enough, but even that shower didn't have the balls to tell people to downsize.

What kind of a bloody Tory is this guy Cameron anyway? It sounds to me that he would be more at home in the Communist Party! Communists believe in such measures as sharing people's private homes with the less well off.

I never thought I'd live to see the day that a so-called Conservative politician, still less a Conservative prime minister, would suggest something so impertinent.

So, then, Cameron, lead by example, you Tory toff! Don't talk to the plebs as though they deserve less than you SOBs. You, young man, are heading for oblivion in the next election. Roll on the next election!

Fatal Cocktail of Common Drugs Putting Elderly at Risk

THE DAILY TELEGRAPH: Hundreds of thousands of older people are being put at increased risk of death or developing dementia by taking combinations of common medicines to treat routine illnesses, according to a new study.

Well-known brands of hay fever tablets, painkillers and sleeping pills pose a previously unknown threat to people’s health when taken together, British scientists claim.

Many are available over the counter at pharmacies as well as being prescribed by GPs, nurses and chemists.

Today the scientists behind the study call for doctors to recognise how dangerous these drug combinations can be and to prescribe harmless alternatives instead.

Researchers from the University of East Anglia and the University of Kent identified 80 widely used medications that, when used in combination, were found to increase the risk of serious health problems.

The drugs, including common allergy treatments Piriton and Zantac, as well as Seroxat, an anti-depressant, are thought to be used by half of the 10  million over-65s in Britain. Many of the drugs, when taken in combination, were found to more than treble an elderly patient’s chance of dying within two years. » | Nick Collins, Science Correspondent | Friday, June 24, 2011

Under Their Watch: Bush, Blair, Brown & Co. They're All the Same

THE TELEGRAPH: Millions of savers are braced for zero per cent accounts within days as the Bank of England is poised to cut interest rates to the lowest level in its 315-year history.

Experts have warned the return on savings could plumb new depths with the Bank expected to take unprecedented steps to regain control over the economy.

They widely believe the Bank will reduce borrowing costs to below their 2 per cent level - and possibly all the way down to 1 per cent - in its first meeting of the year next week.

More than 7 million people have saving accounts which already pay interest of 1 per cent or less. If a cut is passed on in full by banks, these accounts will dive towards negative territory for the first time on record.

Many elderly people who rely on the income from savings have found themselves struggling in recent months as returns fall. Savers Facing Accounts with No Interest >>> By Edmund Conway and Myra Butterworth | Saturday, January 2, 2008

United Kingdom: Government Unable to Control Borders

DAILY EXPRESS: Immigration has hit record levels with 1,650 people moving to the UK every day.

The number of foreigners living here has risen by 1.1million in three years – enough to fill a city the size of Birmingham.

More than one person in 10 now living in the UK is foreign born. The number of people leaving the country has also reached unprecedented levels and nearly half of them are native Britons.

Statisticians had expected net immigration to have fallen by now but so huge is the influx that instead it is continuing to rise.

Soaring numbers of births to foreign mothers are adding to the population explosion. Figures also show there are now more pensioners in the UK than children for the first time. The startling statistics led to calls last night for an annual limit on immigrant numbers.

Sir Andrew Green, chairman of Migrationwatch UK, said: “Our society is being fundamentally changed against the clearly expressed wishes of the public.” 1,650 New Migrants Invade UK Every Day >>> | August 22, 2008

The BMA Has Learned Nothing from History

HMP ALBION: Dear Fellow Bloggers,

Have a look at these articles from the Daily Telegraph (27th Jan 2008):
A Healthier Way to Run the NHS
Don’t Treat the Old and Unhealthy, Say Doctors
Read these and see where the UK is being lead [sic] by the fascist Left, the malignant Politically Correct and our Hippocratically ignorant NuDoctors.

I make no apology for comparing the cancer that is the "New" Labour project and Nazi Germany.

In both cases they banned fox-hunting and smoking. In both cases they targetted the sick, the elderly, the weak and anyone who didn't fit their sick mindset.

Now the overpaid, decadent fools that head the BMA are effectively promoting the eugenics of Herr Doktor Mengele. The BMA Has Learned Nothing from History >>> By Jeremy Zeid

The Disgraceful Doctors in the National Health Service!

I’ll tell you what the NHS cannot afford: It cannot afford to treat the freeloaders coming from abroad, and it cannot afford to treat the illegal immigrants, either. Those are the people it cannot afford to treat. Leave the ‘old’ alone, and leave the ‘smokers’ alone, too.

How disgusting these doctors are! Do your bloody job! Heaven knows, you’re paid enough for doing it.

THE SUNDAY TELEGRAPH: Doctors are calling for NHS treatment to be withheld from patients who are too old or who lead unhealthy lives.

Smokers, heavy drinkers, the obese and the elderly should be barred from receiving some operations, according to doctors, with most saying the health service cannot afford to provide free care to everyone.

Fertility treatment and "social" abortions are also on the list of procedures that many doctors say should not be funded by the state.

The findings of a survey conducted by Doctor magazine sparked a fierce row last night, with the British Medical Association and campaign groups describing the recommendations from family and hospital doctors as "outrageous" and "disgraceful".
