THE DAILY TELEGRAPH: Syrian President Bashar Assad has issued a general amnesty that includes all political prisoners in a gesture aimed at calming protests that have rocked the country for weeks.
Syrian state television said the amnesty covers all crimes committed before May 31.
It could affect 10,000 people who have been rounded up during the protests, according to activists, and includes prisoners belonging to political parties, including the outlawed Muslim Brotherhood.
The arrests were part of the government's harsh repression of a two-month-old popular uprising demanding Mr Assad's resignation. Mr Assad has offered gestures before, like cancelling hated emergency laws in effect for decades, but the demonstrations have grown and spread through much of the country.
Protesters say that in spite of the cancellation of the laws that gave security officers the power to arrest people without formal justification, Mr Assad's forces have rounded up thousands of people for protesting against his government.
Human rights groups say over 1,000 protesters have been killed in harsh response against protests, including live fire and tank shelling. » | Tuesday, May 31, 2011

THE SUNDAY TIMES: NICK CLEGG has declared that he will refuse to prop up an “irrelevant” Gordon Brown even if Labour secures the largest number of seats in a hung parliament.
The Liberal Democrat leader is ready to tear up the rulebook and oust the prime minister if there is no decisive result on May 6. In a Sunday Times interview he warned that Brown’s position would be untenable if Labour got a low share of the popular vote but still ended up as the biggest party in the Commons.
“I think it’s a complete nonsense. I mean, how on earth? You can’t have Gordon Brown squatting in No 10 just because of the irrational idiosyncrasies of our electoral system,” Clegg said. >>> Isabel Oakeshott, Jonathan Oliver and Marie Woolf | Sunday, April 25, 2010

CANADA FREE PRESS: Settle in for a long read… There is NO way to do this topic justice in a column length article. But there is NO more important topic to cover today!
South Carolina Representative Joe Wilson became Democrats’ public enemy #1 when he recently shouted out “YOU LIE!” at Mr. Obama during his internationally televised special address to a joint session of congress. Joe Wilson was the ONLY individual in that joint session who was telling the truth that day!
Obama was indeed lying, as he has been consistently since the moment he arrived on the political scene.
Joe Wilson was the ONLY individual in both houses of congress with the guts to say so. He has since been reprimanded by his fellow members of the House, and the Obama lies have been buried with rushed alterations to the public health bill which will indeed offer free (taxpayer funded) health care to illegal immigrants. But that’s just the beginning of the story!
We are in a very dangerous place in history and if American citizens don’t wake up, take note and take action immediately, we will soon find themselves the only people living in America, without any Constitutional rights.
The administration of “hope and change” represents hope and change for everyone in the world except legal United States citizens. Their domestic policies are very popular with groups that stand opposed to all things American, and their foreign policies serve only America’s enemies abroad.
The Obama administration hasn’t only abandoned the “war on terror,” they are extending US Constitutional rights to known terrorists here and abroad. Our soldiers are forced to Mirandize enemy combatants on foreign soil, in an insane attempt to turn a real war into some police matter in which the terrorists have civil rights under US law.
As American citizens are stripped of their individual constitutional rights daily, those rights are being offered to terrorists, illegal migrants and third world thugs. It doesn’t take a constitutional scholar to recognize that legal US citizens are under attack from within. But it does take some effort to understand why, how, and what to do about it.
Let this stand as a warning to all legal US citizens. The terms “American” and “Americans” have been rewritten to include everyone sympathetic to the international leftist agenda of destroying the United States of America. Legal US citizens—taxpayers!—are the target of people who plan to dismantle the United States, reducing our nation to a third world socio-economic status.
The United States faces three very formidable enemies today, all of which are represented by the new US administration.
All three of these enemies are moving as one within the new administration. All three movements are anti-US, anti-imperialist and anti-capitalist movements.Extreme Islam
The Aztlan Movement
International Secular Socialism
Much has been written and reported on Extreme Islam and the international socialist movements in the US. But very little has been reported about the Aztlan movement, which is the third front in the war on the USA.
In recent years, US citizens have taken note of the federal push for a public health option aimed at providing free health care to illegal aliens. They have also taken note of the constant federal effort to pass some form of amnesty for more than 20 million illegal immigrants. This number will become an estimated 60 million, if allowed to pass into law.
US citizens need to understand why the federal government is pushing these two anti-American initiatives and why they will do everything in their power to pass both into law, no matter how many US citizens stand opposed. Learning about Aztlan >>> JB Williams | Monday, September 21, 2009

THE GUARDIAN: White House set to take on Republicans and union-backed Democrats to create 'orderly' immigration system
Barack Obama plans to grant citizenship to millions of illegal immigrants in an overhaul of US immigration policy, trying to succeed where George Bush failed, according to a report today.
The US president will broach the contentious issue next month, bringing congressional Democrats and Republicans together over the summer to discuss possible legislation for the autumn, the New York Times reported.
Obama will present his drive as "policy reform that controls immigration and makes it an orderly system", the paper quoted Cecilia Munoz, deputy assistant to the president and director of intergovernmental affairs in the White House, as saying. Obama has identified energy and healthcare reform as his legislative priorities.
The timetable for immigration reform backs pledges made to Hispanic groups in the presidential campaign that immigration reform, including a plan to make legal status possible for an estimated 12 million illegal immigrants, would be a priority in his first year. Hispanic voters turned out strongly for Obama at the election. Storm Brews as Barack Obama Embarks on Pledge to Grant Citizenship to Illegal Immigrants >>> Mark Tran | Thursday, April 9, 2009

THE TELEGRAPH: There are nearly three quarters of a million illegal immigrants in Britain, research has suggested.
A study by the London School of Economics suggests that the number of people living in the UK without permission is much higher than previously thought.
The last official estimate of illegal immigration, a Home Office report in 2001, put the figure at 430,000.
Because of the nature of illegal immigration, accurately charting numbers is difficult. The LSE team said the figure lies somewhere between 524,000 and 947,000, with a "midpoint" figure of 725,000.
The LSE study was commissioned by Boris Johnson, the Mayor of London, who is advocating a form of amnesty for illegal immigrants, something both the Government and the Conservative Party leadership oppose.
Many illegal immigrants work without paying taxes. Mr Johnson said that it is not realistic to try to find and expel all illegal immigrants, so it is better to try to bring them into the system and make them pay taxes.
"What I am trying to get people to recognise is that there are limits to what the policy to expulsions is able to achieve at the moment. Failing that, and it is failing, we need to think of a better alternative," Mr Johnson told the BBC. >>> | Monday, March 9, 2009

More than 300,000 asylum seekers should be allowed to stay in Britain indefinitely, the Church of England General Synod has said.
The Synod, the governing body of the state religion, voted overwhelmingly in favour of an amnesty for those whose cases are still being decided on, and said all those who want to live here should be allowed to work.
It also said that a solution must be found to the "intolerable" situation of people who are refused leave to remain but cannot return to their home countries, and that children and families must no longer be detained in Immigration Removal Centres.
The Rev Ruth Worsley, a priest in the diocese of Southwell & Nottingham who tabled the motion on the subject, said: "The financial cost to our country, as well as the human cost which leaves people in limbo for years, not knowing what their future might hold, seems unconscionable.
"With the arrival of the credit crunch, the subsequent loss of jobs, the recent call for British jobs for British people, there is a danger that we become inward-looking and even xenophobic.

THE INDEPENDENT: Today, all four major candidates in London's mayoral election join religious and business leaders in proposing a radical solution for illegal immigrants
A formidable coalition of businessmen, politicians, religious leaders and community workers will pledge their support tonight for an amnesty for illegal immigrants who have been resident in the UK for several years and can pass strict tests to prove their contribution to British society.
All four of London's main mayoral candidates – including, against the official policy of his party, the Tory candidate Boris Johnson – will back the campaign to offer undocumented workers the chance to be integrated into mainstream society and obtain papers allowing them to work and pay taxes legally.
In an unprecedented move that will exert even more pressure on the Government to heed calls for an amnesty, they will be joined by an array of influential figures from outside the political world, including Cardinal Cormac Murphy-O'Connor, Dr Muhammad Abdul Bari, leader of the Muslim Council of Britain and Stephen O'Brien, one of the City's leading businessmen.
"Enormous untapped potential and appalling waste is taking place right in front us," Mr O'Brien, chairman of the lobby group London First and former chief executive of Business in the Community, said yesterday. "Business leaders recognise that the case for an amnesty is both principled and pragmatic. The economic and moral case for liberating this army of workers from the underground economy is irrefutable." THE TELEGRAPH: A mass rally yesterday called for a one-off amnesty to allow hundreds of thousands of immigrants living in the UK to become full citizens.
The Strangers Into Citizens campaign, which attracted thousands of supporters to Trafalgar Square, proposes that migrants who have been in Britain for more than four years should be given a two year work permit without access to benefits.
Then, at the end of the two years, they would be given indefinite leave to remain, subject to criteria such as an English test, criminal checks and employer references.
Cardinal Cormac Murphy-O'Connor, head of the Catholic Church in England and Wales, who held a multilingual mass at Westminster Cathedral beforehand, told the rally that immigrants deserved to be treated with "fairness, with justice and with dignity". Amnesty demanded for 500,000 immigrants
