A Ticket Sold in Florida Has Won the $1.58 Billion Mega Millions Jackpot

CNN: One ticket sold in Florida has won Tuesday night’s estimated $1.58 billion Mega Millions jackpot – expected to be the largest in the lottery’s history – according to the lottery’s website. The winning numbers were 13, 19, 20, 32, 33 with a gold Mega Ball of 14.

The winning ticket was sold at a Publix supermarket in Neptune Beach, Florida, according to the state’s lottery.

A $1.58 billion jackpot – if the prize is confirmed at that level – would exceed the Mega Millions record of $1.537 billion won in South Carolina in 2018, the lottery said. (+ video explainer) » | Jamiel Lynch, CNN | Wednesday, August 9, 2023

Mega Millions Lottery Balloons to Third-largest Jackpot of $1.55bn

THE GUARDIAN: Prize has inflated because no one has matched the game’s winning numbers since 18 April – but this could all end on Tuesday

A Mega Millions lottery jackpot has grown to $1.55bn, making it the third-largest ever ahead of Tuesday night’s drawing.

The prize has ballooned because no one has matched the game’s six winning numbers since 18 April, amounting to 31 straight drawings without a big winner.

The nearly four-month-long unlucky streak could be all the sweeter for the person who finally lands the top prize, which is inching toward the record lottery jackpot of $2.04bn won in 2022 by a player in California.

“It’s a fun thing,” said Merlin Smith, a retired real estate appraiser who stopped Monday at a gasoline station in Minneapolis to buy five tickets. “But if you’re depending on winning, you’d be disappointed a lot.” » | Associated Press | Tuesday, August 8, 2023

US Mega Millions Lottery Jackpot Soars to $1.05bn

THE GUARDIAN: No winner of Friday’s $940m prize, meaning only fifth time in history of Mega Millions grand prize has reached into the billions

The Mega Millions jackpot climbed to an estimated $1.05bn Friday night, only the fifth time in the history of that particular lottery that the grand prize has reached into the billions.

It has been less than two weeks since someone in Los Angeles won a $1.08bn Powerball prize that ranked as the sixth-largest in US lottery history. The winner of that Powerball prize still has not come forward.

No one managed to beat the massive odds and match all six numbers for Friday’s estimated $940m jackpot. The numbers drawn were: 5, 10, 28, 52, 63 and the gold ball 18.

There have been 29 straight draws without a Mega Millions jackpot winner since the last grand prize ticket on 18 April. » | Associated Press | Saturday, July 29, 2023

Friday the 13th proved lucky for one – someone who won the estimated $1.35bn lottery jackpot after a period of three months and 25 drawings that had seen no one across the US win the grand prize.

The winner, whose name is not yet known, overcame steep odds of 1 in 302.6 million and had bought their ticket in Maine, the first time the state has scored the Mega Millions lottery jackpot.

“Congratulations to the Maine state lottery, which has just won its first-ever Mega Millions jackpot,” Pat McDonald, Ohio lottery director and lead director of the Mega Millions Consortium, said in a statement early Saturday.

Mega Millions is played in 45 states as well as Washington, DC, and the US Virgin Islands. » | Guardian staff and agencies | Saturday, January 14, 2023

One Winning Ticket Sold for $1.05bn Mega Millions Lottery Jackpot

THE GUARDIAN: Third-largest prize in US history awaits Michigan winner / Prize had been growing since September

One winning ticket was sold in Michigan for the $1.05bn Mega Millions jackpot, the third-largest lottery prize in US history.

The winning numbers drawn on Friday were 4, 26, 42, 50, 60 and a Mega Ball of 24. The winning ticket was purchased at a Kroger store in the Detroit suburb of Novi, the Michigan Lottery said.

“Someone in Michigan woke up to life-changing news this morning, and Kroger Michigan congratulates the newest Michigan multimillionaire,” said Rachel Hurst, a regional spokeswoman for the grocery chain. She declined to comment further.

The top prize had been growing since 15 September, when a winning ticket was sold in Wisconsin. The lottery’s next estimated jackpot is $20m.

Friday night’s draw came two days after a ticket sold in Maryland won a $731.1m Powerball jackpot. » | Associated Press in New York | Saturday, January 23, 2021
