Exclusive: George Galloway's Conversion to Islam

NEW STATESMAN: Jemima Khan, in an interview with the Bradford MP, reveals the background to his Muslim conversion.

In a wide-ranging interview in this week's issue of the New Statesman, George Galloway MP talks about his spectacular by-election victory, Ed Miliband's fortunes, Middle East dictators and mass unemployment. Interviewer Jemima Khan also exclusively reveals the background to Galloway’s conversion to Islam:
George Galloway, MP for Bradford West, is a Muslim. He converted more than ten years ago in a ceremony at a hotel in Kilburn, north-west London, attended by members of the Muslim Association of Great Britain. Those close to him know this. The rest of the world, including his Muslim constituents, does not.
Over a halal, alcohol-free lunch at a cafe on Bradford’s main high street, Khan tells Galloway: “I know someone who attended your shahadah [the Muslim conversion ceremony].” Read on and comment » | Alice Gribbin | Thursday, April 26, 2012

Hilarious George Galloway Interview: Trapped!

George Galloway Speaks to 3 Anti-burqa Callers!

George Galloway speaks to a trio of Burqa hating callers (on the recent ban of wearing the burqa in public in France), each one with their own take on the Islamic women's dress.

1st caller thinks that the Burqa is intimidating to him. The caller challenges Galloway if he thinks if Nikolas Sarkozy and Bernard Kouchner. Galloway believes the former is a racist and the latter not. He justifies the calling a Sarko as a racist because of his policies on the Roma (gypsy) people. Double standards here. The caller is fine with the burqa ban but doesn't like the rounding up of the Roma people. The caller invokes Saudi Arabia (several times) regarding under age marriages and polygamy (None of his business say Galloway).

2nd caller claims that Muslim husbands force their Muslim wives to wear the burqa without citing a credible source. She also invokes the Saudi Arabia agreement like with the previous caller. Galloway points out that all societies are male dominated.

3rd caller apparently has no clue about how many Muslim women in the UK actually wear the burqa. Galloway states that 99% of Muslim women in the UK do not cover their faces.

Galloway: Our Politicians Need to Start Listening to the People

YAHOO!: Slowly and reluctantly, more and more commentators have had to acknowledge that the sensational Bradford West by-election result cannot be trivialised or put down to accidental factors.

If more had bothered to visit Bradford during the campaign, they would have been less taken aback by the result and not left floundering for an explanation.

Bradford has revealed the yawning gap between the cast-iron consensus shared by the old three parties over so many fundamental issues on the one hand, and the alienation of millions of people in Britain on the other. The leitmotif of the Bradford Spring was above all the cry for change, rather than the same old, same old. It was for a change in economic policy - not to the Labour frontbench's alternatives of savage cuts for tea rather than for breakfast, but to a strategy for growth, investment and jobs rather than forever putting the interests of the banks and bond markets first. It was for a reversal of over a decade of war and the threat of more war.

Those who claimed that calling for withdrawal from Afghanistan was somehow disreputable in an area where high unemployment has driven many into the armed forces and which has lost all too many in combat over the last few years clearly failed to appreciate the public mood. This war is unpopular - not only among those whose coreligionists are being killed in even greater numbers than British personnel, but among the public as a whole. And the succession of wars - Iraq, Afghanistan, the threat of war with Iran - has come to symbolise something deeper: that the political class, and sitting in the same echo chamber so much of the media, simply do not represent the feelings of most people over most things.

That was the most salient truth revealed in Bradford. No amount of promises to listen (while carrying on in the same old way) will bridge that gulf. It's not just that people want politicians to sound like they actually believe what they are saying - whether the audience fully agrees or not - it's also the message. » | George Galloway MP | Guest writer | Thursday, April 19, 2012

Banned Brit Hurls Insults at Canada's Immigration Minister

CANADA.COM: OTTAWA - George Galloway, the British MP who's been declared persona non grata by the Harper government, once demanded that Britain's Labour government block a visit by far-right French politician Jean-Marie Le Pen.

Galloway, an outspoken opponent of the wars in Afghanistan and Iraq, was informed Friday he won't be allowed into Canada for a scheduled four-city speaking tour because he led a convoy that delivered humanitarian aid to Hamas officials in Gaza earlier this month.

Canada considers Hamas a terrorist organization. In a letter, Robert Orr, the immigration program manager at the Canadian High Commission, told Galloway his "material support'' for Hamas makes him inadmissible under Section 34 of the Immigration and Refugee Protection Act.

Galloway has vowed to fight the ban in court. “That's the way the right-wing, last-ditch dead-enders of Bushism in Ottawa conduct their business,'' he sneered in an article he wrote in Saturday's Guardian.

In it, he described Jason Kenney, the minister of citizenship and immigration, as a “gay-baiter, gung-ho armchair warrior, with an odd habit of exceeding his immigration brief.''

Kenney could overturn the ban imposed by border security officials, but has stated he has no intention of doing so.

Being banned by Kenney, wrote Galloway, “is like being told to sit up straight by the hunchback of Notre Dame or being lectured on due diligence by Conrad Black.''

But in 2004, the shoe was on the other foot. Then it was Galloway who argued, unsuccessfully, that David Plunkett, then Britain's home secretary, should prevent Le Pen, the aging leader of the French National Front party, from entering Britain.

“Le Pen should not be allowed to set foot on to British soil at any time,'' he said then. "If the Home Secretary allows into this country someone who denies the Holocaust and who is on record as hating all Muslims, he will be siding with the neo-Nazi far-right against multicultural Britain.''

As well, there's no sign Galloway objected last month when Britain denied entry to Geert Wilders, a Dutch member of Parliament who has compared the Koran to Mein Kampf and blamed Islamic texts for inciting the 9/11 terrorist attacks. >>> By Don Butler, Canwest News Service | Sunday, March 22, 2009

Galloway to Appeal Canadian Entry Ban

AFP: OTTAWA — Lawyers for British lawmaker George Galloway said on Wednesday they would appeal a Canadian border agency's decision to deny him entry for a speaking tour, over national security concerns.

The firebrand MP was to give a speech in Toronto at the end of the month.

But a spokesman for Canadian Immigration Minister Jason Kenney told AFP he was deemed inadmissible by the Canadian Border Services Agency (CBSA) for having given cash and vehicles to the Hamas-run government in the Gaza Strip, which is listed here as a banned terrorist group.

Galloway's lawyer Jamie Liew told a press conference she would send a letter to the Canadian high commission in London denouncing its allegations that he has terror ties, and ask a federal court to review the CBSA decision.

His legal team would also ask for an injunction to allow him to participate in events planned for him in Canada, she said.

The member of the British parliament and his supporters accused Ottawa of "censorship" by refusing to let him tout his anti-war messages here. >>> Copyright © 2009 AFP | Wednesday, March 25, 2009

Canada Bans Outspoken British MP

THE CANADIAN PRESS: OTTAWA — Immigration Minister Jason Kenney will not intervene in a decision to ban British anti-war MP George Galloway from Canada despite opposition claims of censorship.

Galloway termed the decision "idiotic" after Citizenship and Immigration Canada deemed the outspoken politician inadmissible on security grounds. He was exploring his legal options Friday, vowing to fight the ruling with "all means at my disposal."

Kenney's office noted Galloway has expressed sympathy for the Taliban cause in Afghanistan and provided financial support to the Palestinian group Hamas, listed in Canada as a terrorist organization.

Speaking in Calgary on Friday, Kenney said that while he has authority to overrule his officials, he will not provide special treatment to the 54-year-old Scottish MP.

Galloway "last week publicly called for a coup d'etat in Egypt and the overthrow of the government there while at the same time delivering aid and resources to Hamas, which is a banned illegal terrorist organization," Kenney said.

"In this case, I believe folks that are supporting and promoting and helping terrorist organizations are not needed to visit Canada." >>> Copyright © 2009 The Canadian Press | Saturday, March 21, 2009

Firebrand Galloway

With many thanks to Judah of Judah's Journal for bringing this video to my attention. Of course, as we might expect, George Galloway completely misses the point when he talks of Islamophobia!
