E. Jean Carroll Seeks New Damages from Trump for Comments on CNN

THE NEW YORK TIMES: The former president’s repeated denials that he sexually abused Ms. Carroll “show the depth of his malice” and merit heavy damages, her lawyer wrote.

E. Jean Carroll, who this month won $5 million in damages from former President Donald J. Trump, is now seeking a “very substantial” additional amount in response to his insults on a CNN program just a day after she won her sexual abuse and defamation case.

Ms. Carroll’s filing Monday in Manhattan federal court seeks to intensify the financial pain for Mr. Trump. The jury in her civil case found him liable on May 9 for sexual abuse and defamation. It ordered him to pay Ms. Carroll, a former advice columnist and fixture in Manhattan’s media circles, $2 million for the sexual abuse and $3 million for the defamation. » | Benjamin Weiser | Monday, May 22, 2023

Donald Trump Found Liable for Sexual Abuse, Defamation | DW News

May 11, 2023 | A New York jury on Tuesday found former US President Donald Trump liable for sexual abuse and defamation against advice columnist E. Jean Carroll. He was ordered to pay $5 million (€4.56 million) in compensation and fines in the civil lawsuit. However, the jury rejected Carroll's claim that Trump sexually assaulted her in 1996. During the two-week-long trial, Carroll testified that Trump had sexually assaulted her in a fitting room at a luxury Manhattan store. She said he then harmed her reputation by writing in a post on his platform Truth Social in 2022 that her allegations were a "complete con job," "a hoax" and "a lie."

Jury Finds Donald Trump Sexually Abused Columnist E Jean Carroll

THE GUARDIAN: Verdict for first time brands a former US president as a sexual predator but as case is civil he will only face financial punishment

A New York jury has found that Donald Trump sexually abused the advice columnist E Jean Carroll in a New York department store 27 years ago.

The verdict for the first time legally brands a former US president as a sexual predator. But as it is the result of a civil and not criminal case, the only legal sanction Trump will face is financial.

The jury deliberated for less than three hours. The verdict will add to Trump’s growing legal woes. Last month he pled not guilty to 34 criminal charges of falsifying business records over the payment of hush-money to the porn star Stormy Daniels during the 2016 presidential election. It also looks likely that Trump will face criminal charges over his attempts to falsify the result of the presidential election in Georgia. » | Chris McGreal in New York | Tuesday, May 9, 2023
