Frank Schaeffer: USA to Elon Musk: Get Lost!

We must break the political power of the oligarchs before they finish breaking our democracy forever. America does not belong to Elon Musk, Donald Trump, Jeff Bezos, Mark Zuckerberg, Peter Thiel, Larry Ellison, or Rupert Murdoch. It belongs to you and me. It belongs to the American people.

The lesson of Texas is that the people can still win. But now that victory must be translated into action by our democratically elected representatives. Break up the billionaire monopolies. Regulate technology giants. Reform campaign financing. Stop allowing billionaires to purchase political influence and hold entire nations hostage to their private business decisions.

Side with freedom and democracy. Side with the brave Ukrainians. Stand up for our neighbors rather than turning against them. We must break the political power of the oligarchs before they finish breaking our democracy forever. This is our country, not theirs. And it’s time we took it back.

Bravo, Frank Schaeffer! Brilliantly said! You’re telling it just like it is! We need to tell these tech bros who are trying to destroy our democracies to get on their bikes! They have no love for democracy because of the environments they grew up in.

Peter Thiel moved from South Africa to Namibia where he attended a German-speaking school in the coastal city of Swakopmund. During the 1970s, the German community of Swakopmund, of which he and his family were members, was notorious for its glorification of Nazism. It was a place where local residents at that time still used the ‘Heil Hitler’ greeting! (Der Hitlergruß.) The community also openly celebrated Hitler’s birthday! Peter Thiel’s family emigrated from Namibia in southern Africa to California when Peter was about ten years old.

Elon Musk did not live in Namibia. He was raised and schooled in South Africa, in Pretoria, Johannesburg, and Durban. Elon grew up under the white-minority rule of the apartheid regime. Members of Elon’s family, particularly his maternal grandfather, Joshua Haldeman, had fascist leanings. Elon left apartheid South Africa at about the age of seventeen to avoid mandatory military service. He left first for Canada, the one-time home of his maternal grandfather, before relocating to the USA where he made his career. — © Mark Alexander
