THE GUARDIAN: Three more people found dead at home of suspect, who minister says held ‘ultra-nationalistic’ views
Six people were killed and 16 wounded after a gunman opened fire in a busy market square in Kraków, authorities said, in what Poland’s defence minister called an “act of terror” on the people of the city.
The suspect, a 25-year-old Polish citizen, opened fire with an automatic weapon in the city’s main square at about 3pm on Saturday before being apprehended by police.
He was fascinated with far-right ideologies and held “very radical” and “ultra-nationalistic” views, the Polish interior minister, Marcin Kierwiński, said at a news conference.
Four women and two men were killed, one of them a British citizen, Polish police said. Three of the victims were Polish women and the remaining two victims had not been identified.
Five foreign nationals from Britain, Austria, Germany, Portugal and Russia were wounded, a Polish government spokesperson said.
Hours after the attack, the prime minister, Donald Tusk, said authorities found the bodies of three of the suspect’s close family members – two women and a man – inside his home in Ostrowiec Świętokrzyski, a city about 90 miles (140km) north-east of Kraków. » | Donna Ferguson and agencies | Sunday, November 8, 2026
