THE TELEGRAPH: President suggests he could change agreement as UK-US relations sour over Iran war
Donald Trump has threatened to rip up his trade deal with Britain in one of his strongest attacks on Sir Keir Starmer to date.
After their split over the war in Iran, the US president suggested that he could change the agreement reached by the two leaders last year.
In May 2025, Britain became the first nation in the world to agree a trade deal with the Trump administration in what was hailed as a show of the strength of UK-US ties.
However, in a thinly veiled threat to No 10 on Wednesday, Mr Trump said: “We gave them a good trade deal – better than I had to, which can always be changed.”
Mr Trump also declared that ties between the UK and the US had “been better” and were in a sad state because of Sir Keir’s refusal to join his strikes on Tehran. » | Dominic Penna Senior Political Correspondent. Emily Smith | Wednesday, April 15, 2026
