'Not In Favour': Meloni Shuts Down Macron on Palestine Move; ‘If Something Doesn’t Exist…’

July 26, 2025 | Italian PM Giorgia Meloni has strongly opposed French President Macron’s plan to recognize Palestine at the UN. Joining the U.S. and Israel, Meloni said, “If something does not exist, you cannot recognize it.” Her remarks follow Germany’s similar stance and growing European division on Palestinian statehood. With Trump and Netanyahu also condemning Macron’s move, is France becoming isolated in the West?

On the Palestinian question, Macron is right and Meloni is wrong. In order for the Palestinian state to come into existence, you must first recognise the Palestinians’ right to have their own state. Then, you must take all the necessary steps to bring that state into existence. Palestinians, like all peoples, deserve to have their own homeland. Basta! – © Mark Alexander
