Michael Lambert: Third Runway in 2040? Is This Really the Answer?
Feb 1, 2025 | Earlier this week, Rachel Reeves, the Chancellor of the Exchequer, announced a number of major infrastructure projects. She announced plans for a railway linking Oxford and Cambridge which could result in eighteen new towns being built forming — a ‘Silicon Valley’ of new technology. She also announced a proposal to give the go-ahead to a new third runway at Heathrow airport. Both of these projects will take many years, possibly decades, to complete and neither will help in the government's urgent quest for growth.
