That air looks very smoky to me. I’d love to be able to smell it! More than two years and eight months have passed now since I quit smoking. And since quitting, I have hardly ever smelt cigarette smoke! I know no-one who still smokes – unfortunately! I’d love to smell the smoke from someone’s burning cigarette. Especially at Christmas. It’s very unlikely to happen, though. Brits are too PC and woke these days ever to light up.
When I was growing up, many people smoked. Both cigarettes and, especially at Christmas, also cigars. On Christmas morning in my home, we’d have so many visitors for snacks and drinks that the air would be thick with the gorgeous smell of smoke and the smell of the huge turkey roasting in the oven in the kitchen. Oh to re-live those wonderful aromas! That, for me, was Christmas. What can be experienced today pales by comparison. Smoking really does need to be made cool again! – © Mark Alexander
