1914 | Sainsbury's Ad | Christmas 2014

Nov 12, 2014 |Sainsbury’s Christmas advert, 1914. Made in partnership with The Royal British Legion. Inspired by real events from 100 years ago.

This year’s Christmas ad from Sainsbury’s [2014] – Christmas is for sharing. Made in partnership with The Royal British Legion, it commemorates the extraordinary events of Christmas Day, 1914, when the guns fell silent and two armies met in no-man’s land, sharing gifts – and even playing football together.

The chocolate bar featured in the ad was on sale that year at Sainsbury’s. All profits (50p per bar) went to The Royal British Legion and benefitted our armed forces and their families, past and present.

No company has ever been able to replicate the beauty and deep, true meaning of Christmas that Sainsbury’s managed to create in this beautiful and moving Christmas advert in 2014. In fairness, it is hard to replicate such a beautiful Christmas message. What we have seen from all the companies ever since pales by comparison.

It is hard not to be moved by this extremely beautiful and touching ad. It conveys the true meaning of Christmas. Furthermore, it is timeless. — © Mark Alexander
