Michael Lambert: Boris Johnson: Sue Gray Report and Boris Johnson's Catalogue of Failures

May 28, 2022 • The Sue Gray Report was published last week after a very long delay and after the publication of the Metropolitan Police report into the 'Partygate' scandal in Downing Street.

The report was damning and severely criticised the culture at No 10 at the time when the entire country was under the severest lockdown.

A procession of ministers has appeared before the media to praise and defend Boris Johnson who mysteriously escaped any further fines. These ministers claimed continuously that Boris had 'got Brexit done' and that he had masterminded the skilful response to the Covid pandemic.

Brexit is a disaster, resulting in much-reduced exports to the EU since the UK opted for the hardest of borders. The Northern Ireland Protocol is a problem without a solution given that there can be no border on the Island of Ireland and given Boris Johnson's insistence that there be no checks on goods travelling from GB to NI.

Whilst exports to the EU are subject to thorough checks and controls, goods flowing the other way are able to enter the UK without any checks whatsoever – an invitation to smugglers. It has been announced that the UK will impose no checks until at least the end of 2023.

Boris Johnson has been a disastrous leader. Almost every decision he has made has been wrong. He is dishonest, lazy, self-obsessed and incompetent.
