Canadians of African Origin Seek Equality
Canada's oldest black community, based in the eastern province of Nova Scotia, are commemorating the country's black civil rights pioneers. Hundreds of people of African heritage, who lived in the area, were moved out to make way for a new bridge in the 1960s. The reconstruction of a church is the beginning of what many hope is a cultural revival of the community, which some believe has yet to achieve full acceptance and equality.
