No Exceptions to the Dutch Smoking Ban, High Court Rules

NRC HANDELSBLAD INTERNATIONAL: The Dutch high court has upheld the smoking ban, overturning two rulings by lower courts that allowed one-man cafes to let their patrons smoke inside on Tuesday.

The owners of smaller bars had taken their cases to court because, they said, they were not breaking the Dutch anti-smoking law, introduced in 2008. Unlike other countries, the Netherlands’ smoking ban is based on the right of employees to work in a smoke free environment.
