Austria Lacks a Culture of Human-rights

AUSTRIAN TIMES: The European Network against Racism (ENAR) based in Brussels claims in its latest report that Austria lacks a culture of human-rights.



The report says that human- and civil-rights groups in Austria are rarely in a position to pressure the federal government on important issues. "In Austria, there appears to be no tradition of discussing and fighting for human rights," it adds.



Every step forward in the area of human rights in Austria since World War II has been the result of foreign pressure, and Austrian human-rights organisations have had to solicit it in order to change racist structures in the country, the report continues. >>> | December 3, 2008
