DUTCH MINISTRY OF FOREIGN AFFAIRS: In a letter to the House of Representatives, Minister of Foreign Affairs Maxime Verhagen explicitly distances the Dutch government from comments made by MP Geert Wilders about the people of Jordan and the Jordanian Royal House. Wilders called King Abdullah II a despot and said that, politically and democratically speaking, Jordan had not progressed beyond the level of Neanderthals.
Last week it emerged that legal proceedings had been initiated against Wilders in Jordan after a private citizen registered a complaint. An official notification of these proceedings is expected to be sent to the Netherlands through diplomatic channels, along with a request to inform Mr Wilders.
