Lord Carey said that Muslims must address “with great urgency” their religion’s association with violence. He made it clear that he believed the “clash of civilisations” endangering the world was not between Islamist extremists and the West, but with Islam as a whole.

I agree with you: These people need to be backed by the people for their words to have any real impact.
The Pope's statement that he has "deep respect" for Islam shocks and disappoints me. The Pope should say no more; otherwise he will undo all the good he has done!
How can he have "deep respect" for a people who refuse Christ and say he was a Muslim? It might be politic for him to say this, but it is surely ABSURD!
I am quite heartened by this strong statement by Lord Carey of Clifton. I was beginning to think that the Christian clergy were going to abandon the Faith, being intimidated by the apostles of political correctness and the desert barbarians. BRAVO Lord Carey!

Yes, so am I! At last someone has come out and called the enemy by its name: Islam! And for those who didn't know, the followers of Islam are called Muslims! Please take note!

Also, it was good to read bubba's post as it shows one more person has a good understanding of what Islam is about.
As I peruse different blogs from time to time, and I watch the trends in the national (UK) media, I am heartened to see that there might just be an awakening of sorts happening in the west.
What the general public need is a program of education concerning Muslim values and aims, as Bubba suggests;
"Look up the terms: dhimmi, jizyah, and taqiyya. Learn. The average Muslim on the streets of Europe believes that the Quran is supreme over the laws of Europe. Research what honor killings are."
That comment is spot on, and I would like to bet that a very high percentage of westerners would be shocked/enraged to learn the meaning of those words!

They would indeed be shocked. But getting them to stay still, to get them off their whirli-go-round of money-making and enjoyment trip for long enough would help them to be able to comprehend the catastrophic changes taking place about them! Then, perhaps, they really will begin to understand.
