Pope appeals for clemency for Abdul Rahman
Image hosting by Photobucket
Pope Benedict XVI has asked the Afghan president to show clemency towards a man facing possible execution for converting to Christianity.

Abdul Rahman has been charged with apostasy, a religious offence.

The Vatican said the pontiff had appealed to President Hamid Karzai to respect human rights guarantees enshrined in the Afghan constitution. Read the rest here: Pope makes Afghan convert appeal

Good news! CNN and other media have just reported the case has been dismissed and he will be released.

One source said: the court dismissed the case on Sunday "for a lack of information and a lot of legal gaps," the official told AP.

An answer to many prayers.

From what I've read, this Pope "gets it" about Islam. According to yesterday's WaPo, "departing from the conciliatory overtures of John Paul II..."

Pope John Paul II "got it" about Communism, but he didn't understand Islam. Pope Benedict XVI seems to understand the danger.

The release of Rahman is outstanding news. But we must pray for his safety.

Yes, Always, this Pope gets it. You are so right when you say that the last pope understood communism, but had a lesser grasp of Islam.

Pope Benedict is a very intellectual man. He understands the threat all right. He impresses me greatly, even though I am not a Roman Catholic.

I only wish our Prime Minister understood Islam as well he. Blair's thoughts on the subject are ALARMING!

Mark,
From one of my favorite writers, I think you will like this:
Facing down a culture where they talk like crazies?

Thank you for that incredibly good link. That article is so poignant and accurate.

I have said it before, and I will say it again: We are war with Islam itself; and if we are not, we should be.

We can delay being truthful about this to ourselves for a while longer; but the day will come when we shall have to be truthful, for not to be will be tantamount to destroying oursleves and our civilization.

There is no compromise to be with Islam: It's their survival or ours. I know whose survival I would choose.

To say that Islam and multiculturalism are strange bedfellows is to seriously underestimate the problem. Multiculturalism and Islam make no bedfellows. Islam understands only ONE culture: Islamic culture. With that there can be no compromise.

We need to keep our powder dry! We are going to need it sooner than many think.
