Churchill speech a lesson for the present
I stated in my book, The Dawning of a New Dark Age, that an 'Iron Veil' needs to be dropped between the West and the Islamic world.
It is therefore interesting to read the following article from the BBC: Churchill's speech on the 'Iron Curtain'. It's interesting, too, that the BBC finds it so relevant at this time!

Iwas a great speech.
Of course it was a few years ago and there wasn't any EU to worry about, PC wasn't developed at all and the people could still remember the war vividly.
From the article: Sixty years later, there are more democratic governments in the world than ever.
Yet such moral certainty is rare, and the authority with which Churchill's expressed it is surely rarer still.
"Moral certainty"--seems that the West has lost that concept.
US Iconoclastic Patriot:
Will we ever see another Churchillian figure, I wonder? It would be difficult for such a figure to emerge in today's PC world. There was certainly nothing PC about Churchill.
Furthermore, it would be difficult, too, because of the emasculating laws of the EU.

I'm working my way down the page to answer each question, and I have just seen that your comment is almost identical in its message to my answer to US Iconoclastic Patriot. Is this a case of two great minds thinking alike, I wonder? :-)
Anyway, sorry about that.

I have already been over to that website. Though I didn't view any videos. I shall get over there again when I get a chance. Thanks for alerting me to those videos.
I would rather be left on a desert island with just one book of his quotations, than live in luxury and have to spend one minute readin that "book of lies"
I love that sentence!
Always:
I agree with you wholeheartedly. The West has lost any sense of its moral certainty. But if we don't refind it, it will be a nail in our coffin!
"Moral certainty"--seems that the West has lost that concept.
Yes, Always, BIG time!
Anton:
This is wonderful! Thank you so much for drawing it to my attention.
Unbelievably, Washington is urging Europe to admit Turkey to the EU. Were that to happen, the Muslim population of Europe would skyrocket to 100 million — an act, in my view, of consummate folly. Already Judeo-Christian Europe is under siege from a tidal wave of Islamic immigration. The admission of Turkey would hasten its demise. While I have a great regard for the Turks, the only democracy in the Muslim world and stalwart members of NATO, I am firmly opposed to their admission to the EU. I would accord them most-favoured nation status, but not the right to settle in Western Europe and become EU citizens.
He has said EXACTLY what I said in an earlier blog.
The folly of possible, nay probable, accession of Turkey to the EU is something I have written of several times. I can't imagine anything more stupid!
However...
At the same time it is vital that, in our pursuit of the men and women of terror — we do all we can, not to alienate these large Muslim communities already established among us. For, without the active support of the Muslim communities, we shall never excise this deadly cancer in our midst.
I do not see what he's driving at here! Does he mean that we need to redouble our efforts to appease these people within our societies?
Is this a case of two great minds thinking alike, I wonder? :-)<
Can see no other explanation Mark.
Must be, Missinglink, must be! :-)

I think Bush must be trying to draw the war into europe, get us to do the dirty work for him.
Encouraging us to accept Turkey, helping through the sale of P&O and now Doncasters, he is selling us out. We would certainly draw some fire from his Eastern front and the to victor the spoils.
Are these the pre war days that we will, if fortunate enough to survive, look back on and wonder how we missed vital signs?
The enemy IS among us and we are caught not just unprepared, but leaderless.
When will the 'Churchill of our time' emerge from the shadows? because from where I'm sitting, it seems the eleventh hour is already chiming.
Reverand Mike Oxlong:
Encouraging us to accept Turkey...
This is STUPID!
Are these the pre war days that we will, if fortunate enough to survive, look back on and wonder how we missed vital signs?
People ARE missing the vital signs!
The enemy IS among us and we are caught not just unprepared, but leaderless.
Not a decent leader in sight!
When will the 'Churchill of our time' emerge from the shadows? because from where I'm sitting, it seems the eleventh hour is already chiming.
The elventh hour is indeed chiming! But, with the EU being so strong, can another Churchill emerge?
Hi
I was bought up on Winston and am so glad to see people taking an interest in his words again.
Found this the other day from his grandson:

about halfway down the page is the link entitled "Churchill on Islamic Fundamentalism"

Yes, I agree. The Americans are TRUE friends of ours. More than this, they are our brothers and sisters across the BIG POND!
