Some welcome anti-dhimmitude from the Italians
Roberto Calderoli, a member of the anti-immigrant Northern League party, is minister without portfolio for institutional reform and devolution.

The minister is quoted as saying: "I've had T-shirts made with the cartoons that have upset Islam and I shall start wearing them today."

He added that it was "time to put an end to this story that we need to dialogue with these people", and asked: "What have we become, the civilisation of melted butter?"
His T-shirts are to be distributed in Italy depicting the Prophet Muhammad!

That’s great to hear … he’ll be besieged by leftist apologists there in Italy but it’s good to see someone stand up.

Back to Denmark. While I respect the brave Danish people, their embassy in the US is in a dhimmi mode. They really think groveling helps.

Of course, we have our Al Gore ...

I just lost my temper at some academic who linked to Nation magazine author John Sugg: “The Muslim world has been under assault from western, Christian crusaders for a thousand years.” Are these people brain dead or just scoundrels?

Oh, there'll be a hue and cry all right. Of that we can be sure. But it is encouraging, nevertheless.

This jumped off the page at me when I read what 'The Ministry of Foreign Affairs' had to say:

In the matter of the 12 drawings of the Prophet Muhammad, a violation of section 140 of the Criminal Code has been reported to the police. Section 140 lays down that ”Any person who, in public, ridicules or insults the dogmas or worship of any lawfully existing religious community in this country shall be liable to imprisonment for any term not exceeding four months or, in mitigating circumstances, to a fine.” The matter is at present being considered by the Director of Public Prosecutions.

So is all this talk of upholding the rights of freedom of expression in vain, I wonder, Jason?

Islam was imperialist from day one! The standard trope, Muslims were history’s victims, is too silly to warrant extensive exposition.

Here! Here! Jason. Here! Here! I can understand why you lost your temper!

That article in Nation linking to John Sugg is interesting. But as you RIGHTLY say: Are these people brain dead or just scoundrels?

I'm with YOU all the way. Sometimes these people make me despair.

I saw that “violation” of the criminal code. That’s worrying. Of course, Rassmussen has said he doesn’t have nor does he want the power to stop the press from publishing. Let’s hope he prevails.

I knew you’d understand my frustration with these academics. Mr. Brady, who posted the link, isn’t a leftist. As a matter of fact he’s taught at prestigious free market think tanks (like the Institute for Human Studies at George Mason University.) So I was saddened and upset that he didn’t realize the distortions in the article he linked to. Of course, these people specialize and are unaware of other areas of history.

In any case, I was afraid that in my agitated state, I might over-react. But I think I was “spot on” and I'm glad you took a look. I may not have won a friend but if he’s honest, he’ll become curious about the real history.

You might have been in an agitated state; but you CERTAINLY didn't over-react. Don't worry about that at all!

I knew you’d understand my frustration with these academics.

I completely understand your frustrations. I get very frustrated with these people myself. They talk bunkum half of the time.

Like you, I so hope that Rasmussen's dedication to free speech and expression remains firm. To use Thatcher's phraseology: I hope he doesn't "go all wobbly" on us!

What is Al Gore up to??? He sounds like a panderer who will oversee our destruction as a free society....

John:

Can you go dhimmi and ever get your mojo (spine) back?

That's a damn good question!

Al Gore will if he gets his way! Better keep him out of office - forever!
