I've always admired John Howard, I think he is a man of principle and courage.
I wonder what the average Aussie has to say about him--they have a much broader knowledge of him than I do.
I rather admire him, too. He certainly has more principle than the average politician, I feel; and he's got the courage to say some uncomfortable things.
I really don't know what the average Aussie feels about him. I do know some Aussies. When I get a chance, I shall have to ask them what the general feeling in Australia is.
The thing about being a politician, I feel, is this: If one is too afraid of speaking out about an issue, then one shouldn't be in politics at all! One has chosen the wrong career! Ditto if one is uncomfortable taking touch decisions. As Mrs. Thatcher used to say: The tough decisions are usually the best ones.
