Whatever happened to the gentle but effective art of propaganda?

When the Berlin Wall stood, when the Cold War was in full swing, when the USSR was our main concern and communism threatened to overrun the free world, one tool was used very effectively: propaganda disseminated by radio broadcast.

Why have we forgotten how effective this tool can be? Why aren't we broadcasting by radio and television in the Islamic world today, telling them how superior the free, democratic and 'Christian' West is? Why aren't we pumping them with the information we want them to come to know and learn about?

It would seem to me to be a good first step forward. It would cost no lives, and it could create doubt among the people of the verity of Islam, at least among those who are less than devout followers of the religion.
