This Is a MUST Read/Watch/Listen! ’Son of Hamas’ Who Spied for Israel

BBC: For Mosab Hassan Yousef, everything begins and ends with God.

The startling journey of the eldest son of a Hamas leader, a Christian convert, and former Israeli spy, has shocked, angered, and intrigued.

We meet in New York on the day his new book, Son of Hamas, is published in the country he fled to a few years ago.

Before we start our interview, a burly man in his entourage asks his own question.

I take him for a bodyguard, possibly an Israeli. "Could we say our prayers first?" he asks our BBC team.

And then, they bow their heads in Christian prayer asking for God's blessing.

Green Prince

Mosab Hassan Yousef repeatedly makes it clear in our wide-ranging interview that he now sees himself walking in the path of Jesus Christ, whom devout Christians regard as the son of God.

He says he is also suffering for his beliefs, "carrying the cross," as Jesus did, as told in the Bible.

The man whose Israeli code name became the Green Prince admits how he has gone from being "a prince in my country to the lowest possible level, of being a traitor".

But he is still a man on a mission: "I want my people to understand I am not doing what they want, but what they need."

His book tells the story of a young man raised in a strict Muslim family in the Israeli-occupied West Bank, in the folds of the Hamas movement.

But he lands in an Israeli prison before he is 20, experiences Israeli torture, but also witnesses torture by Hamas inmates against other Palestinians.

A young Palestinian's rage against Israeli occupation is soon matched by growing hatred of what he sees as the corruption of the Palestinian Authority, the violent ideology of Hamas and finally the precepts of his own Islamic faith.

His mood is still surprisingly upbeat.

"I am more optimistic than at any time in the past, and hopeful about the future. I am sure I will help my people as I helped them in the past, even though they didn't appreciate it."

But he expressed hope that one day they would, even if it was not in his own lifetime. Read on (with video and audio) >>> Lyse Doucet, BBC News, New York | Wednesday, March 03, 2010

Hamas and Fatah Sign Reconciliation Deal

THE DAILY TELEGRAPH: Fatah and Hamas signed a reconciliation deal on Wednesday, setting Mahmoud Abbas, the Palestinian leader, on a collision course with Israel.

In a surprise announcement following secret talks in Cairo, Mr Abbas’s moderate Fatah party and its Islamist arch-rival Hamas said they had put a four-year rift behind them.

The two parties pledged to form an interim unity government with elections in both the West Bank and Gaza in December.

The rapprochement is seen as a vital step towards the creation of a Palestinian state but immediately stoked fears in Israel that the moderate Palestinian Authority, led by Mr Abbas and dominated by Fatah, would swing towards radicalism.

Benjamin Netanyahu, the Israeli prime minister, immediately condemned the deal.

“The Palestinian Authority must choose either peace with Israel or peace with Hamas,” he said. “There is no possibility for peace with both. Hamas aspires to destroy Israel and fire rockets at our cities ... at our children.” » | Adrian Blomfield, Middle East Correspondent | Wednesday, April 27, 2011

Carter Wants Obama to Remove Hamas from Terror List

ISRAEL NATIONAL NEWS (ARUTZ SHEVA): The Obama Administration should remove Hamas from the terrorist list, former President Jimmy Carter told media following his visit to Gaza today. He said he plans on pushing for the change when he meets with U.S. officials on Thursday to discuss his latest trip to the Middle East.

Carter’s comments came during a joint press conference with Hamas leader Ismail Haniyeh following their meeting today in Gaza. The former president said he tried to convince Hamas leaders to denounce violence, accept the existing interim agreements and recognize the right of the Jewish state to exist.

"Hamas leaders want peace and they want to have reconciliation not only with their Fatah brothers but also eventually with Israelis to live side by side, with two nations, both sovereign nations recognized by each other and living in peace," Carter said.

Haniyeh told Carter that he supported any plan that aims at preserving Arab rights and leads to the establishment of a sovereign Arab state on all the territories that were occupied by Israel in 1967 "with Jerusalem as its capital." He urged Carter to pressure Israel to lift the security blockade which was imposed on Gaza’s border crossings to prevent weapons smuggling. >>> Zalman Nelson | Friday, March 26, 2010

Israel-Hamas War: Piers Morgan vs Palestinian Ambassador Husam Zomlot over Gaza Hospital Strike

Oct 18, 2023 | Piers Morgan Uncensored is joined by Palestinian Ambassador Husam Zomlot for a passionate debate on the ongoing conflict in Gaza between Israel, Palestine and terrorist organisation Hamas. They also discuss the conflicting reports of the missile that went into a civilian hospital in Gaza.

Piers asks Husam if he will condemn Hamas attacks on October 7th on Israeli citizens. Husam doesn't condemn the attacks, but rejects the notion of killing innocent civilians. Husam adds that if he condemns the attacks, people will cling on to the idea that Hamas are the people who started this conflict and believes it is dangerous because people conflate Hamas with the Palestinian public.

The ambassador then goes on to question Piers on why he did not ask the Israeli Ambassador Tzipi Hotovely to condemn the actions of the Israeli government before asking whether he would accept that by the definition of terrorism, Israel's actions should be defined the same way.

Civilian Casualties in Israel-Hamas War 'Alarming,' Warns UN Secretary-General Guterres

Oct 24, 2023 | The war between Israel and Hamas has created a crisis in the Middle East "growing more dire by the hour," United Nations Secretary-General Antonio Guterres said during a meeting of the Security Council on Tuesday.

"The war in Gaza is raging and risks spiraling throughout the region. Divisions are splintering societies, tensions threaten to boil over."

The Oct. 7 attack by Hamas into Israel left over 1,400 Israelis killed in the fighting. Israel has responded with a bombardment of Gaza. According to Gaza's Health Ministry, more than 5,700 Palestinians have been killed in the two weeks since the war began.

Guterres condemned the Hamas attack and called for the release of hostages while also noting the attack "did not happen in a vacuum."

"The Palestinian people have been subjected to 56 years of suffocating occupation. They have seen their land steadily devoured by settlements and plagued by violence; their economy stifled; their people displaced and their homes demolished. Their hopes for a political solution to their plight have been vanishing," Guterres said.

"The grievances of the Palestinian people cannot justify the appalling attacks by Hamas, and those appalling attacks cannot justify the collective punishment of the Palestinian people."

Guterres also called on fuel to be allowed into Gaza, which is currently being blockaded by Israel. He said United Nations efforts to distribute aid would not be possible without fuel for trucks and that Gaza's hospitals would not be able to function without electricity.

Netanyahu Slams European "Hypocrisy" as Court Orders Removal of Hamas from Terror Blacklist

Masked Hamas members take part in a rally in support of the
armed Palestinian factions in Rafah
THE DAILY TELEGRAPH: Decision to remove group from list on "technical" grounds comes as European parliament votes in faour of Palestinian statehood

Benjamin Netanyahu accused Europeans of failing to learn from the Holocaust on Wednesday after Europe's second highest court removed the Palestinian militant group Hamas from the EU's terror blacklist.

The Israeli's prime minister's furious broadside came on a day of frenetic diplomatic manoeuvering that saw the European parliament adopt a resolution backing Palestinian statehood while Palestinian officials at the UN prepared to table a motion setting a timetable for a peace agreement.

Mr Netanyahu ignored those developments in remarks issued by his office but instead focused on the European court decision, along with a meeting in Switzerland of signatories to the Geneva Convention which he said was aimed at examining war crimes allegations levelled against Israel.

"Today we witnessed staggering examples of European hypocrisy," the Israeli leader said, pointedly comparing European conduct to the "friendship of the people of the United States" in remarks welcoming the visit of Joni Ernst, a newly-elected US Republican senator.

"In Geneva they call for the investigation of Israel for war crimes, while in Luxemburg the European court removed Hamas from the list of terrorist organizations.

"Hamas that has committed countless war crimes and countless terror acts. It seems that too many in Europe, on whose soil six million Jews were slaughtered, have learned nothing.. The friendship we see from the United States stands in complete contrast to what we are seeing regretfully in Europe." » | Robert Tait, Jerusalem | Wednesday, December 17, 2014

Hamas Eases Strict Enforcement of Sharia Law

GLOBAL POST: Hamas once stalked Gaza’s streets, searching for canoodling couples or risqué outfits. Now, locals say, the Gaza Strip is a much more liberal place.

GAZA CITY, Gaza — Five years after they seized power in the Gaza Strip, the Hamas movement appears to have entirely backed-off from attempts to impose strict Islamic strictures on life in the coastal territory.

Hamas’ largely bearded police force once aggressively stalked Gaza’s streets and beaches, searching for canoodling, unmarried couples and intimidating shop owners selling risqué lingerie. The government ordered female lawyers to cover their hair in court. Citing Islamic traditions, in 2010 it announced bans on women smoking nargileh — the Middle Eastern water pipe.

But now, locals say, the Gaza Strip is a much more liberal place.

“The government doesn’t bother me at all any more,” said 35-year-old Said Al Helou, the owner of a women’s underwear and lingerie shop in Gaza City.

Indeed, the male hairdressers once ordered by the interior ministry to stop styling women’s hair are also back to work.

In Gaza City, the comparatively liberal, seaside capital of the Gaza Strip, women — many without headscarves — meet more easily with men at upscale cafes, smoking water pipes and wearing t-shirts, skinny jeans and trendy high-wedge heels.

“At first, a few years ago, the [Hamas] police told me to never display a photograph or mannequin that reveals a woman’s body in the window,” Al Helou said. His window display now features a mannequin clad in a white lace negligee. “But now, they’re not concerned.” » | Erin Cunningham | Wednesday, July 11, 2012

Israel-Hamas War Sparks Backlash in US

Oct 20, 2023 | The Israel-Hamas War has set off clashes on college campuses with major companies condemning the Hamas attacks and some retracting job offers to students who criticize Israel’s military action. Jeffrey Sonnenfeld joins to discuss why companies have been stepping up and speaking out.

I think this is dark behaviour! So what this professor is saying is this: there is only ONE side to this story. What Hamas did was brutal and inexcusable, about that there is no doubt, but if the world wants this atrocity and massacre never to be repeated, then we have to look at the root-causes of the massacre. What that disgusting Hamas organisation did was a symptom of long-term injustices and the sequestration of land which Palestinians believe belonged to them. Even if this is not believed to be true by Israelis and others, the Palestinians (and Arabs) do believe it to be true; therefore, this subject matter deserves to be discussed and analysed IN FULL, and WITH IMPUNITY. If we don't discuss and analyse this heinous crime, this ongoing conflict between Israelis and Palestinians will NEVER be resolved. Further, that law students should have their careers destroyed for having opinions diametrically opposed to CEOs and Ivy League professors is preposterous. Moreover, to go down this route in a so-called democracy augurs badly for the future of freedom in the USA. – © Mark Alexander

Israel-Gaza Conflict: What Is Hamas? - BBC News

Oct 9, 2023 | Hamas is a Palestinian Islamist militant group which rules the Gaza Strip. It is sworn to Israel's destruction and has fought several wars with Israel since it took power in Gaza in 2007. In between those wars, it has fired or allowed other groups to fire thousands of rockets at Israel, and carried out other deadly attacks.

Israel has also repeatedly attacked Hamas with air strikes, and, together with Egypt, has blockaded the Gaza Strip since 2007 in what it says is for its security.

Hamas as a whole, or in some cases its military wing, is designated a terrorist group by Israel, the United States, the European Union and the UK, as well as other powers.

Hamas is backed by Iran, which funds it and provides weapons and training.

German Police Carry Out Raids on Suspected Hamas and Samidoun Properties | DW News

Nov 23, 2023 | The German Interior Ministry on Thursday said police had conducted raids on properties in four federal states connected to suspected Hamas and Samidoun members. Germany, along with the US, the EU and others, has designated Hamas a terrorist organization. Samidoun describes itself as an international Palestinian prisoner solidarity group. Berlin had banned the activities of both organizations in early November.

Searches were carried out in Berlin, Lower Saxony, North Rhine-Westphalia and Schleswig-Holstein. A spokesperson for the Senate Interior Administration said that more than 300 police officers took part in the raids of 15 properties, 11 of them in Berlin. Seven searches concerned Hamas, and four Samidoun. Germany's Interior Ministry says that there are around 450 Hamas members in the country. According to German authorities, their activities include influencing political and social discourse in Germany and financing and fundraising to strengthen the organization. A week ago, authorities also conducted nationwide searches of 54 locations across seven federal states connected to the Islamic Center of Hamburg, suspected of supporting the militant group Hezbollah.

Islamic State Threatens to Topple Hamas in Gaza Strip in Video Statement

THE GUARDIAN: Video issued from Isis stronghold in Syria is rare public challenge to Hamas, which has been cracking down on jihadis who oppose its truces with Israel

Islamic State insurgents have threatened to turn the Gaza Strip into another of their Middle East fiefdoms, accusing Hamas, the organisation that rules the Palestinian territory, of being insufficiently stringent about religious enforcement.

The video statement, issued from an Islamic State stronghold in Syria, was a rare public challenge to Hamas, which has been cracking down on jihadis in Gaza who oppose its truces with Israel and reconciliation with the US-backed rival Palestinian faction Fatah.

“We will uproot the state of the Jews [Israel] and you and Fatah, and all of the secularists are nothing and you will be overrun by our creeping multitudes,” said a masked Islamic State member in the message addressed to the “tyrants of Hamas”.

“The rule of sharia [Islamic law] will be implemented in Gaza, in spite of you. We swear that what is happening in the Levant today, and in particular the Yarmouk camp, will happen in Gaza,” he said, referring to Islamic State advances in Syria, including in a Damascus district founded by Palestinian refugees. » | Reuters in Cairo | Tuesday, June 30, 2015

Israel-Hamas War: Piers Morgan vs Bassem Youssef on Palestine's Treatment | The Full Interview

WARNING: This video contains strong language

Piers Morgan Uncensored is joined by Egyptian comedian Bassem Youssef and later on by co-founder of the Daily Wire, Jeremy Boreing, for a heated and emotive debate on the historical treatment of Palestine during their conflict with Israel and whether Israel's decision to bomb Gaza in an attempt to get rid of Hamas is justified and proportionate after the attacks on October 7th.

Bassem condemns the terrorist organisation Hamas and tries to explain that people have been desensitised to accept that civilians dying is an inevitability of war.

Piers then suggests he doesn't know what the "proportionate response" to a terrorist attack of Hamas's scale would be. Bassem responds by referencing a graph that shows the total amount of deaths in the conflict prior to the attacks and questions the Palestinian killings in the West Bank, which has never been occupied by Hamas fighters.

Bassem then mocks Ben Shapiro for his public stance on Israel defending themselves, questioning how an occupier can be defending themselves. Shapiro's friend and colleague Jeremy is then invited by Piers to debate Bassem's criticisms.

Here’s What We Know About the Israel-Hamas Deal

THE NEW YORK TIMES: Officials in Qatar, which helped broker the deal, said 13 hostages were expected to be released on Friday. An Israeli official said Palestinians in Israel’s custody would be freed first.

A deal between Israel and Hamas for a temporary cease-fire appeared to take effect on Friday. Here is a closer look at the agreement, mediated in part by Qatar, and how it is expected to play out.

What’s in the deal?

The agreement is for at least a four-day pause in hostilities. During that time, at least 50 women and children — from the roughly 240 people that Israeli officials say were abducted on Oct. 7 — were expected to be exchanged for 150 Palestinian women and minors imprisoned in Israeli jails.

The deal also includes an increase in humanitarian aid for Gaza, but Qatar’s foreign ministry did not release details. Hamas said Thursday that 200 trucks carrying relief supplies and four fuel trucks would enter the territory each day during the four-day pause. Israeli officials did not immediately comment.

Israel said its warplanes would not fly over southern Gaza for the duration of the cease-fire, and would not fly over the northern part of the territory for six hours each day.

How is it being carried out?

The pause had been scheduled to begin at 7 a.m. Gaza time (midnight Eastern) on Friday, Qatar’s foreign ministry spokesman, Majed al-Ansari said Thursday, which Hamas confirmed. Mr. al-Ansari said a first group of 13 hostages would then be released starting at 4 p.m., in exchange for an undisclosed number of Palestinian prisoners. » | Karen Zraick, Aaron Boxerman and Isabel Kershner | Published: Thursday, November 23, 2023; updated: Friday, November 24, 2023

Hamas Warns Palestinians Against Collaborating with Israel

THE GUARDIAN: Gaza campaign includes posters, murals, radio broadcasts and religious speeches, and runs alongside amnesty for informants

Hamas has launched a campaign warning Palestinians in Gaza against collaborating with Israel following the execution of two alleged informants in April.

Posters and murals have appeared across Gaza City, graphically depicting the consequences of providing information to Israeli intelligence. Some include images of nooses, while others warn that "your people's blood will be on your hands".

The Campaign Against Collaborating with the Enemy, which also includes speeches by religious clerics, radio programmes and advertisements and newspaper articles, is running alongside an amnesty for informants which ends on 10 July.

"We are educating people with the aim of reducing or eliminating collaboration," said Abu Abdullah Lafi, who is in charge of the campaign for the de facto Hamas government's interior ministry.

The problem, he said, was not widespread, but Israel was making intensive efforts to recruit informants. "The blockade has created a new scale of people who are unemployed. The IDF [Israeli military] is calling them, offering dollars in exchange for small amounts of information. First they ask who are your friends, neighbours, who is in Fatah or Hamas."

Eventually they demand information that will allow them to carry out assassinations, he said. Lafi declined to give details on how many people had turned themselves in, saying the information was "very confidential". >>> Harriet Sherwood in Gaza City | Sunday, June 27, 2010

Egypt: Movie Star Facing Death Threats for Criticizing Hamas

LOS ANGELES TIMES: Egyptian movie star Adel Imam has sparked a fuss by criticizing Hamas and holding it partially responsible for the Israeli invasion of the Gaza Strip. His criticism of the Palestinian militant group has spurred radical Islamist leaders to issue a fatwa calling for Imam's execution.

Earlier this month, Imam told the independent daily al-Masry al-Youm:
“The Egyptian leadership warned the Palestinian leaders against Israeli attacks; however, they did not pay attention and fought a disproportionate war. It is better that Hamas stops what it is doing because Israel will not respond with flowers.”
Imam also criticized pro-Hamas demonstrations that erupted around the Arab world blaming Egypt for the blockade suffered by Hamas.

His statements did not go unnoticed. On the contrary, they stirred a debate among his detractors, who accused him of being an apologist for the government of President Hosni Mubarak, which refused to open its border with Gaza to Palestinian refugees. Imam was reportedly condemned by radical websites in Algeria and Morocco as an unbeliever. >>> Noha El-Hennawy in Cairo | Sunday, January 25, 2009
