THE AUSTRALIAN: FAR-RIGHT Dutch politician Geert Wilders has postponed a speaking tour of Australia until early next year after Immigration Minister Chris Bowen said he would not block his visa, sparking concerns his "hatred" would lead to more protests and violence.
The anti-Islam campaigner has drawn condemnation from Australian Muslims, who said his visit would inflame the tensions that led to riots in which about 100 people clashed with police in the centre of Sydney.
"Geert Wilders is adamant to visit Australia with the intention of attacking Islam and creating further animosity and hatred between Australian communities," said Islamic Association of Victoria secretary Baha Yehia.
"This is a man who has compared the Koran with Adolf Hitler's Mein Kampf and who was charged by the Dutch government in 2010 for having incited racial hatred through his public pronouncements."
