NB: There can never be a “European Islam”. To believe that there can be is to buy into a delusion. It is also dangerous to believe that a European Islam can be created. A Muslim’s belief system – Islam – is unifying; it cannot be fractionated. Indeed, Islam defies fractionation. Muslims – all Muslims – belong to the Ummah, or community of Muslims worldwide.
