Bush the Universalist?

Confused thinking by the leader of the free world. We need wonder no longer why Islam is gaining so much ground here in the West. This president just doesn't understand what the West is up against! He simply will not grasp the nature of the jihad being waged against the West. It is surely time for him to read some history books! - ©Mark

Bush never seemed to be very smart, in my eyes.

For some reason he always seemed to be more of an actor than Ronald Reagan. Sort of a marionette, no personality, no charisma, no mind of his own.
So, this is why I am NOT really surprised about his recent "warming-up" to Islam.

So glad that in the USA they only allow two terms of presidency and the good thing is.... that his term will end soon.

I am European, therefore I can`t be blamed for electing him. Though, thinking of it... how about our European politicians??? Are they any better???
NOPE... same hypocrites, same cowards... even more so.

@Mark: did you get my reply to your e-mail?
Kind regards, K

I remember that interview when it was first aired. I cringed at the time, even though back then I didn't comprehend the threat of Islam.

GWB: "I don't think this is a religious war."

Uh, what? He's missed the boat on this one.

GWB: "People yearn to be free...no matter what their religion."

Maybe they yearn to be free, but Islam won't allow for personal freedom.

As to "We all worship the same God," I've already stated at several blogs that I don't worship Allah. Allah is not the same god as my God, nor is he a real god. He's like Baal--a false god.

Yes, Bush is a universalist. No question in my mind about that. And when it comes to Islam, universalism is a death knell--for any faith other than Islam.

Muslims can believe as they choose, but when they start acting upon those beliefs and telling the West that we can't have our Christian beliefs, their freedom of belief ends with that action.

Does anyone think there's any chance Bush is saying the pc stuff about Islam but that he really does understand the scope of the problem and is planning behind the scenes?

I have no idea but am just asking the question.

I was initially in favour of the Iraq war as I thought WOMDs had to be destroyed.

I'm still unsure if there were any found or not but the whole bringing democracy to Iraq thing is either willfull ignorance or a red-herring for another agenda. I hope it is.

European Kafir:

The longer President Bush has been at the helm, the less smart he has shown himself to be. But as you rightly say, our European politicians are not showing themselves to be very smart either.

Bush's biggest downfall, in my opinion, is his unwillingness and inability to recognize Islam for what it is: A dangerous 'religion'.

Yes, I did get your reply to my email. I'll answer it as soon as I can. Thank you.

Always:

Yes, that interview is cringe-inducing, isn't it? Forgive me for saying it about your president, but in that interview, he comes over as a dork!

Saying that people yearn to be free is not applicable to Muslims. He just doesn't understand Islam, does he? The problem is that it is very dangerous not to understand Islam when Islam is the enemy!

President Bush makes me feel very uncomfortable about the future of the West. He inspires no confidence whatsoever. That's a sad state of affairs at this juncture in the West's evolution.

No. Personally, I don't. I think he refuses to see Islam as the problem. He has compartmentalized the problem as emanating from a radical branch of Islam, a branch of Islam whose followers have bastardized an otherwise perfectly good religion. HE IS WRONG!

I was initially in favour of the Iraq war as I thought WOMDs had to be destroyed.

Many of us were at the time; but the Iraq War has proved to be a very costly side-show. Five years down the road, we are still no closer to winning this war.

I'm still unsure if there were any found or not but the whole bringing democracy to Iraq thing is either willfull ignorance or a red-herring for another agenda. I hope it is.

I believe that Bush has seriously screwed-up. He hasn't got the first idea what we, in the West, are up against. He's clueless!

Mark, interesting new post at melaniephillips.com about a speech John Howard gave yesterday slamming the leftists - she's calling him the new Churchill as he speaks his mind. Nothing like a bit of courage.

I do wonder what G.Bush says in private at his ranch with his father and the other neo-cons. Surely they are aware of the real nature of Islam? How could they not be?

Leelion:

Thank you for alerting me to this post by the ever-insightful Melanie Phillips: Australia's Churchill.

This is the article on this story by the Herald Sun: Howard attacks left intelligentsia

John Howard has always impressed me. He shows a willingness to speak his mind, regardless of the fallout and regardless of the consequences. British and American politicians are not showing this tendency at all. They are all wimps.

I do wonder what G.Bush says in private at his ranch with his father and the other neo-cons. Surely they are aware of the real nature of Islam? How could they not be?

The Neo-Cons had an agenda. I think they are trying to fit in reality with their version of the truth!

I doubt that Bush really understands the nature of Islam, somehow. Were he to do so, then he would have behaved differently towards it. In any case, there's too much money changing hands at the top between the oil-rich Saudis, who have contracts to give out, and money-grubbing politicians. Even if they understand the problem (which so many don't), they are unwilling to act on it because of the 'oil factor'.

Here's another reason why Bush refuses to see Islam as the problem:

"In 2003 Wahhabi radicals in Saudi Arabia launched a violent campaign to topple the Saudi royal family, which has been closely allied to Washington for decades." - Andrew Hammond

Bush is afraid that if he comes out with Islam being our problem, then the whole 'house of cards' in Saudi Arabia will come toppling down!

By the way, Leelion, have you returned to New Zealand yet? Or are you still in Australia?

Back along, you said you were going to Oz, and as you wrote of John Howard this morning, I was wondering if you were still there.
