I've always thought of a possible WW3 as being nuclear - a terrifying prospect so I hope this is not going to be it.

The mutually assured destruction deterrent between the super-powers of the cold war won't necessarilly apply to Islamic fanatics who don't fear death.

As for Australia Mark, a great country and genuinely friendly people.

Uluru, otherwise known as Ayers Rock, the red-heart of Australia, is fantastic and a recommmended tourist destination.

Sometimes we ease into war, but in the case of conflicts with Islam, what we call war is merely another event in the on-going Jihad that began, as mussolini pointed out, in 630AD with Mohammed and the Koran.

The faces are different, the ideology is the same and the reason is: to promote the goals of Islam using any means necessary.

The major differences are: the kinds of available tecnology and the weaponry, and as leelion pointed out, the possibility of the use of nuclear weapons...by those who care little whether they or anyone else lives or dies.

The hope of Christians for heaven is personal, not involving anyone else; apparently the hope for paradise for Muslims requires a reprehensible action -- murder of non-believers.

Determining the start of a world was has historically not been done without a perspective such as 20/20 hindsight.

Having said that, I believe that Gingrich might be correct.

Or, possibly, Israel will help to prevent at world war by beating the stuffings out of Hezbollah.

Always, I agree with you. It is very difficult to predict a world war. But what can be said is that this has all the makings of a possible world war.

Or, possibly, Israel will help to prevent at world war by beating the stuffings out of Hezbollah.

That's a very interesting observation. Yes, I agree with you: We might be able to thank Israel yet for preventing world war three. But what happens from here on in is anybody's guess. We live in interesting, but very dangerous, times.

Let's hope and pray that the Israelis will bash the living daylights out of the Islamic jihadists before the pathetically weak, cowardly and corrupt UN can "come down" on them. I suppose that in some strange way, it is a real positive that the UN is so corrupt, incompetent and impotent.
