Extremism: Egypt Charges 13 with Promoting Shiism

YNET NEWS: Prosecutors accusing Shiite cleric, 12 others group of receiving funds from Iran to promote 'extremist ideas to sow unrest in Egypt'

An Egyptian official says a Shiite cleric and 12 others have been accused of receiving funds from Iran to promoting "extremist" Shiite doctrine in Sunni-dominated Egypt.

Shiites form a small minority in Egypt, where Sunni Islam is the official state religion.

The official said Thursday that prosecutors are accusing the group of insulting Sunni Islam and promoting extremist ideas to sow unrest in Egypt. >>> Associated Press | Thursday, September 03, 2009

Brit Ban for Hate Preachers

THE SUN: TWO American hate preachers were banned tonight from entering Britain by Home Secretary Jacqui Smith.

Extremist Christian leaders Fred Phelps and daughter Shirley Phelps-Roper had planned to jet into the UK to protest against a play being put on by a gay youth group on Friday.

The fanatics are both members of the US Westboro Baptist Church - a sick sect which calls for homosexuals to be killed and CELEBRATES soldiers' deaths in Iraq and Afghanistan.

Picket

Phelps, 79, and his daughter Shirley, 51, had targeted a performance of The Laramie Project, about the death of an American man killed for being gay.

They had boasted they would picket the play, due to be held at a school arts centre in Basingstoke, Hants.

But the pair will now be stopped by immigration officials on arrival and placed straight on a flight back to the US.

Home Office sources said other church members could also be flagged and stopped if they tried to enter Britain. >>> By Tom Wells | Wednesday, February 18, 2009

PINK NEWS: Labour's Gay Group Asks for Ban on God Hates Fags Church Members

LGBT Labour has written to the Home Office asking that members of the Kansas-based Westboro Baptist Church be refused entry into the UK.

The church, a tiny sect with around 60 members, often picket funerals in the US.

They claim God is punishing the world because homosexuality is tolerated.

The group said on their website GodHatesFags.com that they would be protesting at a performance of a gay-themed play in Basingstoke on Friday.

In a letter to Immigration Minister Phil Woolas, LGBT Labour co-chair Simon Wright referred to the Home Office decision to ban a Dutch MP who is critical of Islam from entering the UK because he would harm community relations.

"As the government refused entry to the UK to Geert Wilders last week, it is hoped that the same laws can also be used to prevent this family from entering the UK to spread their hated of homosexuality," said Mr Wright.

At least one Labour and one Tory MP have written to the Home Secretary about the issue. It is highly unlikely that WBC members will try to picket in the UK.

The publicity-hungry group have previously threatened protests in Canada, Australia and Sweden but never turned up. [Source: Pink News] Staff Writer, PinkNews.co.uk | Thursday, February 19, 2009

British Citizenship Lessons for Young Muslims

Hazel Blears is at it again! Teaching young Muslims British citizenship will not keep them away from Islamic extremism, as hoped. Islam is an extreme religion. There will always be a propensity for adherents to the faith to become more extreme the more devout they become.

To try and teach these young people that there is no conflict between Islam and British values is so blatantly untrue that it is absurd!

When are we going to get a government in this country which will protect the British people and their values? - ©Mark

TIMESONLINE: Muslim children will be taught British citizenship in mosque schools as part of a Government attempt to keep them away from the influence of Islamist extremism.

A trial of the new lessons will begin in several cities at the start of the new school year in September, according to Hazel Blears, the Communities Secretary.

The initiative, designed to show young Muslims that there is no conflict between their religion and being British, is part of a package of measures being published today.

It also includes a new independent board of academic and theological experts, and a group of community leaders to advise on local responses to tackling extremism. British Citizenship Lessons for Young Muslims >>> | July 18, 2008

Former Radical Extremist: Radical Islam Similar to Marxism, Soviet Union

TOWNHALL.COM: A former leader of a radical Islamic organization told Congress extreme Muslims are motivated by an ideology similar to Marxism and that Islamism has much in common with the former Soviet Union.

Maajid Nawaz, a native of England and once prominent figure in the London-based extremist group Hizb ut-Tharir, testified before the Senate Homeland Security and Governmental Affairs Committee that the root cause of Islamic terrorism was its fanatical ideology, not poverty or discrimination.

“There is a common misconception on the left in the UK that only grievances can lead to Islamism,” he said.

Nawaz drew parallels between socialist Marxism and Islamism, contending that both movements see everything as a global ideological power struggle. He said Islamists wished for the world to be ruled under a single caliphate state, “like the Soviet bloc.”

“There will always be a conflict between Islamism and capitalism, just as there was once conflict between communism and capitalism,” he said. Former Radical Extremist: Radical Islam Similar to Marxism, Soviet Union >>> By Matt Purple | July 11, 2008

It’s Official: Tony Now ‘Does God' - BIG Time!

Tony Blair the Interfaither

TIMESONLINE: Tony Blair talks about his Faith Foundation, which is no less than an attempt to save religion from extremism and irrelevance

You can’t fault Tony Blair’s ambition.

Within hours of his leaving office last June, the UN announced that the former Prime Minister would take up a role as a Middle East peace envoy. As if attempting to solve that ancient conflict was not enough, Mr Blair will set up his Faith Foundation this year — no less than an attempt to save religion from extremism and irrelevance, and find a way for the world’s religions to co-exist peacefully. If the Blair years are over, no one’s told him.

His new London office is more adviser to JPMorgan than spiritual guru. It may not be Downing Street, but the premises overlooking Grosvenor Square in the shadow of the US Embassy are fitting for a global statesman. The carpets are plush.

Bobby Kennedy’s speeches are cheek by jowl with William Hague’s biography of William Wilberforce. And against the wall is the trademark Blair sofa so that he can conduct business as in the old days.

It is here that he talks passionately about his own faith and the cause of interfaith dialogue. As Prime Minister, faith was an issue he talked about rarely — it was not going to give him answers about public-service reform, he explained.

This was summed up by Alastair Campbell, his press secretary, who famously said: “We don’t do God.” It is clear now though, that freed from the burdens of office, Mr Blair does God very publicly.

“If you are somebody of faith it affects your politics, it affects everything that you do,” he said. “But when I was Prime Minister, if I was to give interviews on faith, I’d just have ended up with a great load of trouble.” Tony Blair Didn’t Do God in Downing Street. Divided Britain ‘Too Soft on Extremists’

DAILY EXPRESS: BRITAIN has become a “soft touch from within and without” for extremists, a devastating report warned yesterday.

Failure to “lay down the line” to immigrants who refuse to integrate has undermined the fight against radicals and terrorists.

This is the verdict of some of the country’s most respected defence experts.

In a scathing attack they blamed increasing terror threat on a “mis-placed deference” to multi-culturalism and lack of leadership.

The London 7/7 atrocities had exposed those weaknesses, it said. The report painted a crushing picture of the UK as a “fragmenting post-Christian society” divided over its history, aims and political identity.

A loss of confidence in the nation’s identity and institutions was increasingly making the country a target for attack.

And it compared that to the “implacability” of the Islamic terrorists now threatening from within our borders.

The hugely-damaging report, from the renowned Royal United Services Institute (RUSI), urged ministers to restore defence and security as the first duty of government.

In unusually strong language, it said: “We look like a soft touch. We are indeed a soft touch.”

It added that Britain was presenting itself as a target increasingly divided about interpretations of its history, about its national aims, its values and in its political identity.

“That fragmentation is worsened by the firm self-image of those elements within it who refuse to integrate,” it said. Divided Britain ‘Too Soft on Extremists’ >>> By Tom Whitehead
