Houdini Brown about to try one illusion too many
Gordon Brown today signalled that his first task as Prime Minister would be to get Muslims to rally around a "Churchillian" pride in Britain.

Finally admitting that he expected to take over from Tony Blair this year, the Chancellor said that he wanted to promote a "modern patriotism" as an alternative to Islamic extremism. Mr Brown said: "I believe we can do more to separate some Muslims from the dark forces that they can be susceptible to."
With thanks to the Daily Mail
Illusions, illusions, illusions! All will be an illusion!

It is as ridiculous as it is depressing to think that the probable next prime minister of Great Britain believes that he is going to be in a position to make the Muslim population of the country desirous and willing to take a “Churchillian” pride in their adopted country. The United Kingdom, in the Muslim worldview, is an infidel country. It belongs to the Dar ul Harb, the ‘House of War’, that part of the world that is in a state of Jahiliyyah, otherwise known as 'a state of pre-Islamic chaos'. To think that it will be possible to make Muslims proud of being British is downright absurd.

Doesn’t this man realize that Muslims are intent on Islamizing not only Great Britain but also the rest of the non-Muslim world, i.e. the rest of the Dar ul Harb? Doesn’t Gordon Brown realize that Islam is a supremacist political system clothed as a religion? Doesn’t this man realize that each and every country that Islam has ever entered and has been allowed to put down roots, it has eventually taken over? There is only one exception to this, Al Andalus, or Moorish Spain. And they took over that country for centuries. It is worth remembering that it took centuries to win the country back to Christendom, its having been achieved after much bloodshed, fighting, and sacrifice.

Yet Gordon thinks he is going to be able to buck the trend. Forget it, Gordon! Leopards never change their spots. Islam is what it is: Islam – a religio-political system determined to get the infidel, or kafir, to feel himself subdued or convert to the “only true faith”. ”And whoever seeks a religion other than Islam, it will never be accepted of him, and in the Hereafter he will be one of the losers.” - Qur’an , S. 3:83-85

I surely cannot be the only one who finds all this empty talk depressing. Is the West incapable of kicking up a leader who understands what is at stake here? Where have all the Churchillian figures gone? Where are the Harry Trumans of this world?

Current leaders are willing and eager to accept the power and the glory and the salaries and perks that accompany such political positions, but none of them has the insight, the understanding, or the courage to take on the challenge that is Islam – the greatest challenge to Judeo-Christian culture and therefore the greatest challenge to Western civilization since the challenge of communism.

Dear Gordon, the Islamic threat is no illusion, and therefore no sleights of hand or political tricks or illusions will suffice to keep the people free of the darkness of Islam. This is a fight to the death: the death of the force of Islam in the West, or the death of the West itself. Go read your history books, Gordon! Go learn about the true nature of Islam! Learn about its goals and objectives, and then, if you really do become our leader, remember this: Your mission will be to keep the people of the UK free and safe from tyranny, and that includes the tyranny of Islam. To do this will require courage and determination and strength. Politics is no longer an arena for wimps. This is a battle of civilizations. Let no-one try and kid you that it is anything else.

The day you will get Muslims to take a “Churchillian” pride in the United Kingdom will be the day when Islam rules this "Sceptered Isle”. Remember Churchill’s words on Islam. They are poignant:
“How dreadful are the curses which Mohammedanism lays on its votaries! Besides the fanatical frenzy, which is as dangerous in a man as hydrophobia in a dog, there is this fearful fatalistic apathy. Improvident habits, slovenly systems of agriculture, sluggish methods of commerce, and insecurity of property exist wherever the followers of the Prophet rule or live. A degraded sensualism deprives this life of its grace and refinement; the next of its dignity and sanctity. The fact that in Mohammedan law every woman must belong to some man as his absolute property - either as a child, a wife, or a concubine - must delay the final extinction of slavery until the faith of Islam has ceased to be a great power among men.

Individual Moslems may show splendid qualities. Thousands become the brave and loyal soldiers of the Queen: all know how to die. But the influence of the religion paralyses the social development of those who follow it. No stronger retrograde force exists in the world. Far from being moribund, Mohammedanism is a militant and proselytising faith. It has already spread throughout Central Africa, raising fearless warriors at every step; and were it not that Christianity is sheltered in the strong arms of science - the science against which it had vainly struggled - the civilisation of modern Europe might fall, as fell the civilisation of ancient Rome.”
- Sir Winston Churchill [The River War (1899)]

Another excellent essay Mark.

Only one quibble though...where you say remember this: Your mission will be to keep the people of the UK free and safe from tyranny, and that includes the tyranny of Islam. You miss the point that Gordon himself seeks to impose a tyranny upon the populace as a whole, that being the enthronement of soft left socialist / Marxist dogma upon the discourse of politics in the UK. The Muslims are as a consequence a natural and useful ally in this goal. Of course Gordon, being Gordon, knows that he, of all men will then be able to control the course of events. After all that stern, dour look of his is more than a match for any pious Muslim radical. Hubris my friend, lots and lots of it. I guess it comes from living in the incestuous bubble of Whitehall's spin cycle for too long.

Mark, with this paragraph you capture the core essense of just what is wrong with our political institutions, in this day of celebrity adulation, and shallow expressions of compassion and virtue. The recent brouhaha over the Big Brother program on C4 also highlights this venal opportunistic approach to matters of serious import to the wellfare of the state, as is demonstrated by the total silence over the screening of the program Dispatches, with its alarming message of the actual actions and intentions of radical Islamic preachers residing within our midst.

Quite simply, for all their posturing, our preening peacocks are nothing but moral cowards.

Mark, I have written a two page rant upon the subject of moral obfuscation that the BB incident highlights, while it is somewhat off topic to this subject in hand, it is only tangentaly so. With your permission I would like to post it here, for I think it would actually widen the debate. For until we can steer the focus of the majority, upon the failings of the few, we will not move our perilous position one inch from the edge of the precipice.

Maybe Mr. Brown could say that in parliament

Actually Mark, poor Gordon is stuck upon the horns of a dilemma, for he and his pal Tony, together with the rest of their odious gang of intellectual fleas, have pinned their electoral hopes upon the backs of the muslim block vote. For without them, NuLabour would be sunk and out of office. So it's all hands to the pumps me'lads, as the ship of state flounders upon the rocky shoals of Islamic imperialism, or more correctly, wacky muslim insanity. But then again, what Marxist experiment would be complete without its inevitable blood bath? I weep for my beloved country, I really do.

Right on, just another richard. My only thought is that it may be far too complimentary and generous to call these wretches [read, lying, incompetent politicians], "moral cowards" I think they are far too dishonest, stupid, naive, pandering and gutless to deserve such high praise as being moral cowards. I, too, despair for the West as the Gordon Browns, and Tony Blairs and George Bushs are giving away our precious freedoms too serve their own interests.

Phew.

I was beginning to get really lonely in here, all by myself. Yes leelion did pop in but it was a flying visit.

Yes, it is a very desparing picture which confronts us all. But I think the underlying message is that we must become engaged...we must associate. For far too long we have left the chambers of debate to the looters of the mind, to designing, deceitful souls, while we laboured in the fields, earning our keep.

It is a sad statement that I make, that our first call to arms be against members of our own societies. Quite simply the likes of Gordon Brown need to be run out of town on a rail, and that goes for the whole rotten bunch of them. And as for academia, well the Vlad Teppes option could be usefull, for it would pass the message to these Islamic fruitcakes, that if you want mess with us, OK then, but you really, really wont like the outcome. And also "pour L'encourage les autres"
And I'm only half joking here, for given the blood price of this folly, I think your sense of decorum will be so outraged, that compassion will become a commodity in very short supply in the near future.

From what I've observed, the PEOPLE recognize that "understanding" Muslims is appeasement. Our leaders? That's another story and, as you said, Mark, depressing.

Brilliant title, BTW--"Houdini Brown."

Just Another Richard, Leelion, US Iconoclastic Patriot, Sir Henry, John, Always and Eleanor:

I have enjoyed reading all your comments. It is good to be back after a rather protracted Christmas/New Year break.

I should like to inform you that I have been spending far less time at the computer of late for a number of reasons, some of which are as follows: after a rather intense year of blogging in 2006, I found myself rather in need of a good, long rest; I needed to re-charge the batteries; and I have been having a problem with my eyes, especially when sitting in front of the computer screen. The glare seems to cause my eyes to water, causing my vision to become blurred. I am still trying to get over this problem. I believe that my eyes are now somewhat better, but I am not over the hill yet. Of course, it could also be caused by some kind of allergy. I am not sure.

Please bear with me. I am not ignoring your comments. Far from it. But if I do not comment on a one for one basis as I have done in the past, you will know the probable reason why.

Thank you all for your compliments. I appreciate them all greatly.

JAR, as for your posting those essays. Feel free to post them up as a comment. I'm sure we will all appreciate them greatly.

To return for a moment to Houdini Brown's idea, I can only despair of his ignorance. He will never succeed in his quest. Our leaders, or should I say 'so-called leaders', are leading us all down the primrose path. The fact that Islam and Christendom have never co-existed on the same territory in a satisfactory mannner should be a warning sign to us all. Unfortunately, nobody appears to be willing or ready to heed the warnings which are plainly written on the wall.

The nature of Islam cannot ever be re-invented or re-fashioned. Islam is what Islam is; and, as a result, Muslims are what Muslims are. To attempt to mix these two immiscible cultures together using the melting pot theory will never work, more especially because Islam is a supremacist religion which refuses to separate religion and politics (the sine qua non of democracy), and whose followers and adherents are on a mission to take over the world. This whole multicultural experiments is bound to end in tears. When will our ignorant politicians wake-up and smell the dung?

Whilst I agree wholeheartedly with John's sentiments that something is rotten in England. I would go one step further and say that something is rotten in the West as a whole. It's just that England is that much further down the road to dhimmitude than a few other countries like the States are. But these problems will come to us all in time. We've allowed ourselves to become ensnared; and we therefore have only our own ignorant, badly-informed selves to blame for the mess we find ourselves in.

Tolerance is a good thing. But too much of anything is bad. We are too tolerant for our own good.

What kind of arrogance is this that we Westerners display? What makes our politicians believe that we can bring this to a satisfactory conclusion when history tells us loud and clear that Islam and Christendom just do not mix.

It is worth remembering the following: It should come to us as no surprise that if one bakes a cake using the same ingredients, one is bound to get the same cake out of the oven! This is not rocket science, it's just plain old common sense.

You've put your finger upon the central issue of our times here Mark. Though I think in the past we have had our differences of opinion as to the focus of just what our problem is. Each in their own right...valid, it needs us to view this problem as a whole integrated failing that simple feeds upon its own illusions. I am also writing an essay (yes, yes Yawn Yawn), if I get it finished while this comment thread is still active I will post it here, otherwise I'll await the next appropriate opportunity....Ya see....I am a patient man!

Looters of the Mind

The recent brouhaha over the Big Brother program in the UK, highlights the extreme dishonesty which lies at the core of the storm which rages over the issue of racism. Quite simply, for the edification and entertainment of the masses, a program based upon the sole intent of pitting one protagonist against another, and be honest here, this is a competition where there can be only one winner, is set up with the objective of drawing out the character flaws in each participant, for the titillation of the viewers, a sort of modern day coliseum with metaphorical blood. The sole purpose of the program, apart from the point of making money for the producers, is the exposé of the more degenerate aspects of human interaction, for the audience can in no way be described as viewers in search of any genuine edification. The relative merits of one party over another is irrelevant to the scheme of the program. In this particular incident, a bitch fight is drawn completely out of context, to score a larger, and most importantly, dishonest point, by society at large. It is irrelevant that Ms Shilpa Shetty was the virtuous aggrieved party, while Ms Jade Goody was a boor. Given the relative merits, nature and fortune had endowed upon each of the participants, it was a quite easily predictable consequence of the producers choice of those participants for this program. It was set up from the beginning to be confrontational. Human frailty being what it is, especially with egos to spare, it takes a really strong character to be placed in a position where outward appearance is all, to be under the microscope of the camera and to then curb the petty resentments that is the normal consequence of human vanity, one of the most human traits of all, as fortune that appears to favour others, are brought to the fore. Ms Goody was chosen by these producers for her lack of style and grace, and her predisposition to loutish behavior, and she performed exactly as the producers expected. The moral degeneracy here is that of the producers.

However, the most revealing aspect of this is the reaction and pontification of the high and the mighty from their perches of moral superiority, to prognosticate as to the vile racism on display, for nothing more than the preening of their own pieties and vanities in the public arena. The truth of the matter is that the worst that can be said about the incident in question, is that it was an expression of ignorance’s rage against grace and beauty, a not unpredictable outcome and a conflict which has been raging since time immemorial, envy after all, has been with us since societies were first formed, in spite of the fraudulent claims of the “noble savage“ by intellectual morons: but as an expression of a sinister underlying racism, only in a leftists wet dream. The moral indignation poured out for our edification, is the true face of dishonesty promulgated by the self-righteous prattling of our intellectual leaders and political elites, exposed for all to see. The real truth is, Jade Goody’s ignorance is a direct reflection upon their failures as leaders and as formulators of policy and standards. For while no nation can hold its head up and proclaim any great accomplishment by virtue of its endeavours to educate and instill a sense of true self worth and a degree of human understanding in the mass of its population, Britain‘s efforts of late have been singularly, spectacularly abysmal. As an expression of racism, it points more to the inherent racism that lies at the core of the political left as it uses perceptions of transgressions as a club to weald in its conflict to remain relevant and in power, while ignoring its own contradictions of simply excusing the behavior of its favored groups for nothing more than political opportunism. The reality of those perceptions being totally irrelevant to any further part of the debate. The core of the argument boils down to the education and elevation of the human condition, to function and think in a pluralistic society, in a means and manner conducive to true social harmony, something the ruling authorities have singularly failed to do, and failed miserably I might add, but I repeat myself solely to impress a point. I would also add that I think that this is quite deliberate on the part of the guardians of our collective morality, for it makes for a more secure tenure upon the thrones of power and prestige. The welfare of the people be damned, as is plainly obvious from the outcomes of the actions of party ideology, fortified by political correctness over the rational arguments of plain common sense. The only way racism and racial conflict will ever be placed behind us, is when two people of different colour and ethnic background can pass each other in the street, and see a mutual respect reflected in each other’s eye, NOT by imposition of intellectual and political dictat, that “you will like someone else” simply because the law says so, all the while ignoring boorishness and ignorance, even to the point of accepting threatening or brutalizing behavior. Nor by re-writing the script, to malign our forebears, an easy target….they’re not here anymore, so there is no one to defend their actions and point out the lies and distortions perpetrated by a mendacious intelligencia . Though I do think many of our antecedents would make mince meat out of these current sophists, that is in a straight debate, where postmodernist dirty tricks would be grounds for automatic disqualification. The facts and nothing but the facts, everything else is emotional garbage posing as “social justice”, “superior morality”, and “compassionate virtue”; all stated with the dominant conviction which takes the unwary by storm and sways the unsure from their own true convictions.

The racist club has run its course as a political and rhetorical tool, it is time this failed claim to authority was swept into the trash can of history where it belongs, for it has no redeeming virtues in a society that claims to be free, righteous and fair, while seeking a pluralistic cohesion of different ethnic mixes. Well, almost none, it has granted the benefit of exposing the venal and corrupt for their true worth, but then I expect most of those who read this, at least those with open eyes to see, will have already come to those conclusions about the top of the prevailing social order, by other means as well. A bunch of dishonest, duplicitous charlatans, the whole bloody lot of them, and I don‘t just mean NuLabour; for they are all revealed as nothing more than looters of the mind. Masters of deception, manipulators of human aspiration, and destroyers of the human spirit. Jean Jacques Rousseau* once said…”Man is born free, but everywhere he is in chains”. With this perceptive aphorism he truly encapsulated the greatest failing of the human condition. Under the right conditions the human spirit can soar, our accomplishments are staggering in their magnificence, though they pale into insignificance beside the wonders of the natural universe. The human mind is potentially limitless, but is hidebound by superstition, fear and slothfulness.

This isn’t a call to a new path of social engineering, it is a demand for society to educate itself to think and rationalize as independent and thinking beings, something we are all capable of if we but knew it. The capacity of the human mind is almost limitless, it just takes a little endeavour, and a verdant field of vision for the mind to flourish, something we each of us have the capacity to do, if we but try. But human nature tends to slothfulness, especially when distracted by trinkets and glitter.

Francis Bacon said nearly 400 years ago, "Knowledge is power", now consider, that these aspects of human nature are the tools our academic betters have been tinkering with for 150 odd years. They know the human folly which betrays our better natures, and they have ruthlessly cultivated those barren fields of the human mind. Not all academics of course, but certainly many of them in the humanities departments. These are not men and women of compassion, vision and virtue, they are ideologues of ruthless persuasion, acting with all the passion of the faithful, all the conviction of the sanctimonious, and all the fraudulent virtue of the self-righteous.

Gordon Brown, I’m lookin’ at you mate!

*With reference to Rousseau, not my favorite philosopher, but some of his observations were right on the money and are certainly still worth pondering upon today.

Upon reflection, it may appear my opinion of the viewing audience of Big Brother to be somewhat elitist. This is only so in the context of the dissemination and diffusion of the programm into the greater discourse of the national public milieu. It is a mindless entertainment of mass media. It has absolutely no real bearing on British public life, other than highlighting the capacity of the state to produce mindless morons. If you wish to watch it and lose yourself in inanities, fine, but do not then proclaim some non existant social revelation of profound proportions, stirring a conscience of pious virtue, because we all know it will be forgotten tomorrow.

leelion, yes the analogy to the "Jerry Springer show" is very apt;except in this instance, seemingly a whole nation gets to participate, though I am sure there are many who are revolted by the whole spectacle.

leelion, you say that you don't watch TV any more, neither do I, although I do catch the occasional glimpse when I go into my sons room. I guess it's that I don't like being treated like a moron and lied too at the same time. Even the so called history channel does it.

I actually feel a little sorry for Jade Goody, she will never be allowed to live this one down, everyone she bumps into will feel free to puff up their moral bona fides at her expense, she is a marked target. Ms Shetty on the other hand has it made, doors will now open for her like magic, not that she isn't a nice person or anything like that, but to place the worth of a person upon something so facile as this purile TV show, speaks volumes about the degenerate nature of our society.

I posted this elsewhere. But given the content of some of these comments, it might be approprate here too.

Now then, I don't have a telly, so I haven't seen BB. However, I've read a lot about the recent shenanigans all over the place on the net, and no one commenting seems to understand the complexities of the Indian caste system.

From what I've read, the Indian woman has insisted right from the start that she do all the cooking for everyone there with her, with nobody else to even touch the food.

In the Indian caste system it's considered polluting to the higher caste person if s/he accepts food prepared by someone from a lower caste.

Integrate those: she has been saying, without actually using words, that all the others in BB with her are her inferiors.

I think I'd be pissed off with her too, because attitudes of superiority show up in all sorts of ways in personal interactions close up.

We've all had it - talking to someone who's entire attitude makes it quite clear that s/he thinks you are an inferior. That sort of thing will get anyone's back up. Goody was just not sophisticated enough to get her digs in in unobservable ways, like most people would.

This all rests, of course, on my initial premise that Shetty didn't want to eat food prepared by any of the others, and not having watched the program and having to rely on what I've read about it, this comment is vulnerable on that.

Good catch Sir Henry, you spotted the flaw in my position, for I have indeed, albeit inadvertantly, implied that Ms Shetty is the virtuos maiden who has suffered grievous calumny at the hands of a tiresome boor, when the truth of the matter maybe a little more subtle than first appears. See several studies by, for example Zimbardo, for illustration of what can be done in artificial situations. His "Prison" situation is particularly interesting. The situation drives the behaviour.

Number One is no slouch Jason Pappas. Pappas is an excellent writer and scares Marxists as all liberterians do.

What can I say to that? Your implications, for me, are not very comfortable.

Good luck with your quest to interview Jason!

I'm going away to lick my wounds!

I encourage you strongly to pursue Mark for a radio interview. I find Mark to be a superb writer, to have extraordinary insights into the problems we face in the civilized world and to be a great champion for Western civilizaton and Western values. I was fortunate to 'catch him' giving a radio interview in St. Louis. In addition to the foregoing strengths, he has a marvelous radio voice and personna. In short, he is outstanding on the radio. It would be a wonderful coup if you could get him on your 'show'.
